Toto Dal 1922 - Rom

Toto was recommended to us by a life long resident of Rome, and it did not disappoint. I think we were the only non Italians in the place but I was happy to eat at a locally owned and loved place. We ordered drinks and were served bread while we looked over the menu. We started with a homemade pasta that we wanted to share....they even split the dish for us which we wouldn't have troubled them to do for us but was so sweet. Perfectly al dente and the sauce was so flavorful and yet light. Also ordered the cod and caper special and a chicken dish. Both were amazing but the cod was the star of the night, packed with flavor and had all the right elements. Loved every bite! We were too full for dessert so they brought us a complementary sip of lemonchello and homemade biscotti to finish. So welcoming and lovely....we enjoyed it tremendously. As with most restaurants in Rome, you had options to sit inside or outside and they put us in a cozy corner inside as there were a lot of smokers outside.

I have no idea what others experienced. Our server was so happy and grateful and helpful. The fact that he spoke English definitely helped us. We booked a 7pm reservation (the only ones there when we arrived... . The amount of food for the prices was AMAZING. The quality of the tuna over fennel was perfect. The tuna was so fresh and the fennel bulb was not overpowering. I've never had octopus and I hope it tastes like that every time, but I doubt it will. The perfection of the cooking made it so tender. We finished with a crème brûlée with orange ting to it. The food was great and the service was even better.

This is our first time in Italy, and we went to this wonderful restaurant called ToTo it is over in the shopping district. We hadn't eaten breakfast and we wanted to go someplace to actually have a really good lunch. We found this wonderful restaurant and we sat outside. They turned on the heat for us and we had wonderful drinks and the food was amazing. My husband does not eat fish, and he ended up having tuna and loved it, when talking to our waiter Al he told us that this place has been here for 100 years. We can see why you can't miss this place when you're in Rome please make a point to stop here and share some of these wonderful dishes that they have.Toto

The most delicious food we had in all the cities we visited in Italy! Also, the most friendly and helpful waiter who come to find out has been loyal to this family restaurant for 20 years. We ordered the eggplant Parmesan to start absolutely delectable! We also had the truffle beef/steak and their homemade gnocchi! The limoncello spritz was made just right! We ate inside and enjoyed the atmosphere. The owner was present and you could tell how important it is to him that everyone is happy with their food and experience. HIGHLY RECOMMEND I look forward to my return to Rome so I can go to Toto!

We chose Toto based on reviews and it did not disappoint. Tuna tartare and all three pasta dishes were amazing. We all agreed it was one of the best restaurants we have tried in Rome. Atmosphere was modern but quaint Great for a family. And only about 900ft from the Spanish Steps
