They have not worked out their finances so that they only take cash in the...morning so that they can buy the ingredients for later on the day, but they have a sign that they accept credit cards at the front door. There is a tiny sign inside (if you even go in) that says only cash. The waitress was nice enough, but there is no reason to ever waste your time here with any other nearby options. You're much better, even with the street tacos.
This is a charming, quiet little restaurant in Puerto Vallarta. It’s two-story, and we suggest making a reservation for the second floor. There’s no view but it’s more intimate. We started with the crispy calamari which was very lightly breaded and nicely seasoned and the...sopa Azteca. We thought the soup was a bit bland and added a couple drops of their hot sauce, which made it perfect. Our server stressed that the sauce is very hot — this is true — be careful! Our two entrees were great. My husband ordered the cilantro shrimp, and I had the shrimp enchiladas — we loved both. In addition to great food, the staff was terrific and there was pleasant background music provided by a guitar player with a very nice voice.
We went on a Friday night for our 3 birthday celebration dinner. For the moment we entered the restaurant we felt very welcomed! We were seated on the 3rd floor patio and the view was spectacular! We took our time with ordering drinks as we were having conversations and at no point did we ever feel rushed. In fact we were told to take our time as the restaurant would stay open for as late as we needed. We ordered the crispy fried oysters, shrimp & grits, and sticky spare ribs to start and they were all delicious. For dinner we had the TRUFFLE ROBALO, SEAFOOD SAFFRON RISOTTO, The duck special of the night, and the rib eye. Each equally delicious in fact we all shared so that no one was left without tasting all the deliciousness! Then for dessert we ordered the strawberries flambe, fried ice cream, and spanish coffees. What a presentation!!! We were mesmerized. The owner even came out with hats, sunglasses, a torpedo of confetti, streamers and tequila shots to finish off our special evening! We were treated like family here and I look forward to next year so we can visit Layla's again!
This was my second visit to this restaurant and boy did they have problems that night. By no means was the restaurant full, but we waited 45 minutes before any food was served. My starter, tempura shrimp tacos were flavorless. The chicken fajitas were bland- literally I would have rather eaten them from Chili's-and I don't care for chain restaurants. The first visit here was nice and felt unique. This time it felt like a very forgettable restaurant. Sorry but this was average at best.
We arrived at the restaurant about 30 minutes before closing time. I was worried that we wouldn't get a welcomed reception due to our late arrival. It was just the opposite, everyone was so nice and welcoming. The food was so very awesome. Rodrigo welcomed us as if it was his own home. He showed us the upper level that has a fantastic view of the ocean. I loved the food, service, atmosphere and mostly the staff in general.
