My dining room companion over the Haddock Sandwich claims sandwiches are generally not remarkable. That was the exception. On the pier so easy to miss. This is part of the charm. I'll be back someday!
A traditional English bar in the Old Port but off the main tourist route. Wonderful staff. Good beer and cider selection (along with a full bar). The Scotch Egg was delectable (one egg for two people is probably sufficient). Low key, local atmosphere.
10/10 recommend the King’s Head— hidden in plain sight on Portland’s waterfront wharf. Excellent choice for a good drink from expansive, changing collection of tap beer, excellent food and friendly bar staff. General Manager Lindsey tends bar and made us feel right at home with thoughtful and fun service throughout our visit. A ton of fun hanging out here — we felt like we have friends in Portland now. Highly recommend the unusual and tasty Scotch Egg and garlicky steamed mussels.
Don't let the lack of ambiance fool you. The food was was absolutely delicious (we had fish tacos and fish and chips)! The beer was ice cold and the people were friendly too!
I came here with my boyfriend on a road trip to Maine. We love this place. Everything we ordered was good. He liked the lamb burger and the mussels are definitely one of the best I've ever had. The haddock chowder is also one of the best in Maine. It's not common for us to find a Scotch egg anywhere near us, so it was nice to finally get to order and taste one. And it was delicious. The atmosphere is really cool with the old building brickwork, rustic bar, etc. It's also right by the water, which is neat. The beer list is pretty long with a good selection of different types of beer. The service was good. We had a great time.
