Went to the Burke on a whim, decided to try the poutine there, was definitely different, but in a good way! Will go back
Second and final chance for this place - fail. Walked in near end of happy hour one large table full of empty dishes and one table in dark corner. We sit at the larger open table with the dishes and are reprimanded and told there are ladies sitting there . Ok so we sit in the corner. At least it's one of the few low tables in the place most are high tables. Next 3 guys come I. And sit at the same table. They wait 10 minutes to be acknowledepged and then too are told that the table,is occupied. It's now been 15 minutes since we came in and no one has come back to that table. No one ever came back and the table sat empty the entire time we were there. They decide to leave and go to Samz- wish we had. Rest of clientele is after work trades people and day labourers from the nearby temp agency. Plus regulars who get preferential treatment. Get in one happy hour drink(beer is Pabst blue ribbon- in a can!). Classy. House draft beer was skunky. Ask waitress regular price of a highball after happy hour. She has no clue and leaves on a 15 minute excursion to find out. Well trained. I go to bathroom. One of the two stalls has a completely busted deadbolt with the wood broken. Classy. We still decided to try the food against our better judgement. Breakfast for dinner at the pub? Yes please! And only $6 - wow! It's at least $10 or more at ihop. Sadly the Burke breakfast is actually the Burke 1/2 breakfast. Ok you get two eggs but they were so undercooked most of the white was runny and the yolk was barely warm- inedible and probably dangerous. You also only get 2 pieces of bacon, a few tablespoons of hashbrowns and one small end of sourdough toast. So it's actually the same price or more than a real restaurant breakfast. It did taste good but I was still hungry. It does not state the portion sizes on the menu. I think people would expect a standard breakfast not a senior, child or mini portion. My partner had chicken strips with a Caesar salad. Chicken strips were good but the Caesar salad was not made with romaine which is normal, customary and by definition. It was made with kale or some bitter lettuce - and was disgusting. It was not eaten and when he complained we were told it would be taken off the bill but it wasn't. $13 for a couple of chicken strips is poor value. Also a small serving of ok chicken wings were $13. We also ordered a Caesar drink and the menu proudly states it is garnished however you like. I asked for celery - the normal, usual and correct garnish. I was told that the witness would have to check if they could do that and went off on another 15 minute excursion. She had also done that when we wanted to order- off on a hunt for an elusive note pad. She couldn't remember the order of two people? Anyway- there are so many other places out there that there is no reason to spend your money at this place. We told the waitress that we were not impressed with the food or service. She giggles "oh okay- good night". Ya see ya - never. Oh ya and I really enjoyed the WHL hockey and women's fake wrestling on the tv. Omg.
My club members and I have been going here for breakfast for years. They have a Special breakfast every Sunday. The food is great, eggs done right and the service is great too. try them sometime.
This location has housed several pubs over the years with The Burke by far being the most successful and enjoyable. With good food, plenty of screens to watch your fav sports action and good service The Burke is an excellent choice.
