Taberna Cadeia Velha - Ponte de Lima

We loved sitting outside this restaurant watching the view and the world go by. Friendly and efficient service and an excellent choice of tapas plus full meals. Everything we had was excellent quality,we particularly loved the clams and the flambé bananas!

We found Taberna Cadeia Velha in the afternoon and asked for a tapas selection without meat and a glass of Vinho Verde each. We received a generous range of tapas, all meat free and delicious. Based on that experience we returned in the evening for a proper meal and were not disappointed in any way. We had vegetable meat balls with tagliatelle, side orders of Shitake mushrooms dusted with prawns with a generous plate of padron peppers, and Tuna glazed with honey and soy sauce. Both meals were excellent, as was the friendly service. The Vinho Verde was also perfect and I’d happily return there if I’m ever in Ponte de Lima again. Thoroughly recommended.

We sat down for diner; an older waiter brought us the menu card; some time later a younger waiter brought a plate with tapas and small plate pulpa. Regarding the tapas nothing was explained to us. The waiter only said in English: eat what you like. We ordered with the older waiter a fish soup and salmon steak. What we ordered was clear. However, when we received the bill, it turned out that they charged us some 24 euro for the tapas and small plate pulpa. This is in our opinion not correct. The waiter should have explained the cost of each tapa and the ingredients. By the way, we speak fluent Spanish and English, so there could not have been a language barrier. This felt like a trick! So be careful when this happens to you!

Excelente local para desfrutar de uma boa refeição. O atendimento é bom, os funcionários muito simpáticos e a vista para o rio também compensa. Os preços são super apelativos e a comida ainda melhor. Aconselho o arroz de tomate com pataniscas e arroz de feijão com sardinhas.
