I decided to create my own bowl with a base of white rice and greens, topped with salmon, crab mix, corn, cucumber, seaweed salad, carrots, pickled ginger, mango, and a spicy mayo-like sauce seasoning. The portion size was large and it made for great leftovers. The young lady who served me was extremely friendly and even took the time to tell me about Pismo Beach and walk me through my poke choices. It truly made my night! This restaurant is truly a hidden gem!
If you enjoy poke bowls and find yourself in Pismo Beach, you have to check out this restaurant. The food is fantastic, the staff is friendly, and they offer a wide variety of choices for your bowl. I like to load mine up with a little bit of everything, along with half rice and seaweed/salad, creating what I call the "Asiangarbage bowl." It's definitely worth trying. You won't be let down.
I recently tried Shin's for the first time and was thoroughly impressed! I will definitely be returning. I enjoyed being able to customize my bowl and everything tasted incredibly fresh. The service was outstanding, and the staff even helped me identify which items on the menu were gluten-free, which was greatly appreciated, as there were plenty of options available. I also appreciated the gluten-free options for the poke marinade and sauces.
There was only one person working, so had to wait awhile to place our order, a couple of people left after waiting, if there were 2 people I believe service would be faster. The guy working was very polite and patient and he was moving quickly to get orders completed and accurate. There was a line out the door at one time. We sat and ate our food in the restraunt. It could be a little cleaner, and cooler and the food prep area a good scrub, the glass for the food and the glass barrier for customers was very smudged....this could be wiped off to have a clear view. Overall food was very good and tasty, the service was great just slow since there were several people in front of us and only one worker. They should really consider 2 people working during busy hours.
Looking for fresh fish poke style with beautiful local vegetables, go no further than Shin's. Basically a take away spot that in typical fashion builds the bowl as you like. It's simple, simply follow the menu board if you have never built a poke bowl before and the staff put it together. We started with half brown rice/half green salad for our base then selected tuna (salmon also available) and could be half half there too), added every fresh vegetable on offer, sauces as recommended as one liked it very spicy, one not. Topped with a few crunchy tempura or spicy Cheeto type crunch. Ask for a sauce or two to go. We pick up the bowls in the afternoon usually and pop them in the refrigerator until dinner. Easy, healthy night off from cooking. On the east west street of Pismo Beach, Pomeroy, about two blocks from the beach. Parking can be a challenge on Pomeroy but usually plenty of parking just around the corner.
