Had dinner here yesterday and we're not going back. The starter took 30 minutes to arrive and the main course another hour. We heard tables around us complain about long waiting time as well. Had ceviche as a starter, which was delicious, followed by cod and squid for main course. Neither of them were great and we ended up leaving halfway through, paying full price for a mediocre experience. Waitress was nothing but nice but we got no explanation or excuse for the kitchen being slow. L'aromate has a really great backyard and we had heard good things. Shame they didn't come through.
Called in on the off chance last week in fairness they did fit us in on what was shaping up to be a busy night . But the combination of delayed order taking, incorrect food delivered, interminable delays Drinks orders that needed chasing up not once but twice mean I very much doubt we would be going back . The food was OK but I can`t go overboard as some earlier reviews
We arrived at 8pm on a Saturday with no reservations to what would appear to be an empty place. They sat us at a high top in the back of the restaurant, which revealed a HUGE and beautifully decorated patio area which was full of people with a DJ playing excellent jazz/funk/r&b music. We ordered the tapas menu for 2 (58 Euro) and some drinks. We have been in Europe for a while and know that nothing comes fast, allowing for a nice, relaxing dining experience. This was just downright slow, to the point that they forgot about us more than once. The good news is when the food arrived (btw, it's entirely too much food for 2 people. Even 2 people with healthy appetites) it was exceptionally tasty. Ours started with a substantial meat platter followed closely by a seafood platter. After we finished the two of these (and about an hour after they were placed at our table) the second series of dishes arrived. A cous-cous type dish with raisins and mint, a mediterranean play on caprese, some delicious grilled sausages and 4 perfectly cooked little fish, all with their own sauces or cheese to accompany. Then another hour went by. We finally got up and went to the front to pay (they don't drop checks at the table, you have to go to the bar to pay your tab). My wife and I think we both walked in at the height of a rush with an understaffed restaurant and they just didn't have the bandwidth to handle it. While we had an unfortunate service experience, the food was very, very good. I'd probably try it again for lunch or a weeknight when things wouldn't be so busy.
