It was our last night in town and the entire experience was divine. The waitress was heaven. We started with the mussels as an appetizer. I loved the small nut and seed mix they leave on the table while you order. The bread was also divine especially with the bowl of chowder we shared. I had their salmon (of course I did) it was wild Chinook salmon with caper and pine nuts on top of cauliflower pearls and Yukon Gold potato ribbons. I can't put into words how incredible this dish was. My husband had their seafood risotto which was also impressive. Somehow I managed to only finish half my main so that I would have room for dessert since I really was eager to try their white chocolate creme brule. Perfect end to a perfect meal. We even had one of the best tables overlooking the water.
Fabulous. There are so many seafood places to try in Newport, but the Saffron Salmon does things just a little bit differently. Like baked goat cheese with olive tapenade and baguette...? I saw that on the menu (never seen it anywhere else before) and needed to visit. It was so delicious it basically changed my life. The crab/shrimp cakes were tasty, but maybe had too many breadcrumbs and were a little dense, but the flavor of them and the aioli were on point and I really appreciated getting arugula AND fries on the side. My partner's chicken caesar sandwich was super delicious, but pretty messy; the chicken was cooked REALLY well and the Asian slaw was super delicious and gingery. The view of the bay is gorgeous and the girl that helped us (Bianca) was outstanding. It's worth a stop for sure.
Fantastic. Great food. Great service. Great location. We went with our dear friends who had been to Saffron Salmon a few times previously. They raved about the food and it was with just cause. The food was amazing. Our table of four had a wide assortment of dishes off the menu. The big hit was the beet risotto cakes. Everyone loved them. I had the seafood risotto and it was just the right balance of briny goodness and creamy decadence. As has been mentioned in previous Yelp posts, the interior/decor of the restaurant isn't super inviting (nor very sophisticated e.g. the restaurant uses paper napkins). Its a bit dated and feels more like a rental condo than a high end restraint but that should not dissuade you, the food and service are awesome. Some of the best on the coast. We had such a great evening. We will definitely be back.
Beautiful glasswalled dining room on the bayfront, this restaurant prides itself on fresh, local, and homemade food items. Very reasonably priced for an elegant dining experience, my only complaint is that it's not terribly intimate. I had a feeling of being on display. It was mostly couples and small groups so quiet but not exactly private. We started with a glass of wine and fried Brussels sprouts that were so amazing, we literally wanted to eat five more. The Tempranillo was one of the best I've ever had. Then we shared a salad and had delicious bread. My mom got a beet salad with salmon which she loved, and I really enjoyed my lamb burger though the bun was a bit too big. We finished with incredible beignets for desert. Made exactly as they should be, light and fluffy.
We were in town and thought we would give this spot a second chance hoping the restaurant would be a more pleasant experience. And after doing so I re-read my last review and after another visit I still feel the same way.... this time I got attitude from the server. Not cool. And based on the comment I received from the restaurant our server was probably the proprietor.
