Don't discount 'Club food' as they aren't all equal. The management and staff of Wests Leagues Club have taken their dining experience to level fat above any other similar establishment. The service is sensational and the staff deal with young kids brilliantly. The food was, although not 'Michelin Star' very good. Very generous plate size and cooked well. Sitting there you wouldn't even think you were in a Leagues Club. Well done by the staff and executive committee. Thoroughly recommended.
Dined here last night with my husband, the view overlooking the street was lovely. The food was way overpriced, we had a share plate, the ribs were lovely as for anything else to be honest was terrible.
Have dined here as a regular customer over the past couple years, unfortunately the last time was well below average. Firstly I would say that the service was quite good. The food was the big let down. I hope the management of Wests occasionally read these reviews so they can take my feedback on board on how to improve. Firstly, the first thing the needs to improve is Portion Size. I ordered the Steak and Ribs Combo and found the portion size to be very small for $44. This meal is one that attracts big eaters to the business in the first place. The actual Steak and Ribs size were as advertised, but a tiny handful of chips and some sought of tiny side salad just didn't live up to how big a meal on this nature should be. I have dined at plenty of "Rib" places and usually you are struggling to get through your meal? I actually felt ripped off and especially while dining at a Casino Style establishment you would think loading up the customers plates with cheap sides would be a given so people could stay and gamble on a full stomach. Secondly, Quality of food. Steak was nice, ribs were cold and chewy and not falling off the bone which you expect when you dine at an American Style Rib house. Burger buns (pulled pork burger) were incredibly stale and reminiscent of a stale "hotdog bun" you buy at the footy, absolutely disgusting! to the point where the Executive Chef in this place must walk around that kitchen with his eyes closed. Why aren't an establishment of your size making your own brioche style buns like every good burger place in Newcastle? Standards of this place have noticeably been slipping to the point where I won't return now. To any potential customers I would suggest you save your money and go have a steak at a fancy restaurant over looking the water for the same price! I would have rated this place terrible only for the service.
Firstly our waiter was very good and took our order carefully, and noted my husbands absolute aversion to garlic, our entre of sour dough with plain butter on the side came with a garlic oil on it, we left most of it. On trying to order the ribs he was told they had already been rubbed with garlic, obviously nothing kept fresh in the kitchen, he ended up with plain steak. I ordered something I couldn't imagine would have garlic in it, salmon but guess what that to had its garlic shot,. When the bill came it clearly stated we had requested no garlic, we at least should have been reimbursed the bread, but no.
