Awesome in the meaning "warm welcoming, with good sense of humor and truly passionate about their job". This place was recommended to me by my colleague who's Japanese. And she assured me that the taste is exactly like in her motherland. Well, I totally trust her! Cause the food... the food is really really good! Moreover, Paku Paku is one of the two Japanese restos in Nantes with a real Japanese chef. So you can be sure that the food is very authentic. Here you won't find "classic" Japanese meal like sushi. But come on, guys, Japanese cuisine is way more interesting then California rolls. We took the 5 pieces set with fried pork (rice and miso soup accompany pork by default) and all the "accompagnements" were delicious. Moreover as a compliment we got an additional portion of veggies tempura. And the chef also added one extra matcha "financier" to our dessert. Also there're very cool private tatami cabins for 2 and 4 people. You need to remove your shoes before going inside (check your socks and pedicure before going there ;). If you prefer to be surrounded by people there're regular tables and the bar where you can eat. Once again, the whole experience was just great! It's definitively the place I'd like to come back many times (just hope they will stay as friendly and helpful as they are). Oh, and about the prices: in the evening 3 pieces set cost 18 euros, 5 pieces set - 22 euros, deserts are around 7 euros. Alcoholic drinks are between 4 and 8 euros per glass.
It’s a Japanese cuisine that seems totally different from those I’ve been able to taste so far in many restaurants. flavors are excellent, but do not look too much like those of classic restaurants. We feel it's because of the house and probably family or personal recipes.
Top! Takoyaki is delicious (which is hard to find in Nantes). Katsu is excellent, crunchy and tender as expected. The portion is quite big, too much rice for me. Should make a reservation in advance.
Surely one of the best restaurants you can find in Nantes if you are looking for non French food. We went here for lunch and had a great time. Every item we ordered, from the miso soup to ice cream filled mochis, was full of flavour and stayed true to the original Japanese dishes. Considering that a 3 course menu for lunch is currently priced below 20 euros, this was great value too.
Incredible choice and quality for a halal-eating dude like me For the entrée I had the Hiyayakko (chilled tōfu and the vegetarian gyozas which were excellent I had the ebi tempura udon for the main with a side of tsukemono (pickled vegetables and potato salad, the tempura was a bit oily but delicious nevertheless, and the udon sauce was superb The portions are packed so I had trouble finishing my order (and I was pretty hungry , I think a main with sides included should satisfy most people
