My family and I visited Amir on Lacadie in Montreal, QC for some Lebanese food. My father had recommended their chicken shawarma sandwiches, but I was incredibly disappointed with the food we received. As a Lebanese person myself, I can confirm that what was served did not come close to authentic Lebanese cuisine. The beef shawarma was cold and drenched in vinegar, the potatoes and fries were oily and soggy, and the garlic sauce tasted more like mayo than garlic. The hummus was a strange gray color and had a metallic taste reminiscent of canned cat food. We arrived an hour before closing and were told they had run out of falafel for the vegetarian platter, which should have been a red flag. The employees were kind and apologetic, offering more chicken shawarma, but it lacked flavor. I urge the owners of this franchise to reevaluate their menu and maybe even consider retraining their cooks, as the food we had was far from satisfactory. This was the worst dining experience I have ever had.
The original location of the Amir restaurant chain never disappoints. Their shish taouk plate is consistently delicious, as are their chicory salad with fried onions and lemon. They offer a variety of other Lebanese dishes such as hummus, fattoush, tabbouleh, lentils, and rice with fried onions. The service is fast and efficient, and they have options available for vegetarians.
From the shish taouk and shawarma sandwiches to the fatouche salad to the grilled shrimps with taboule, every dish is prepared and assembled as you watch. Always fresh and delicious. A Montreal must try.
Be aware that my ratings are based on similar restaurants of this caliber. A fast food 4 star would not be comparable to a 4 star french restaurant. That being said, this restaurant has great food for the money. meat is always fresh and ingredients are good quality for the price. a couple of things do irritate me. The first being how they charge $1 extra to have a mixed plate of shawarma/shish taouk. Still don't understand why this is so. I also hate that their rice with meat (rouz et hachwi) has so little meat. those minor things aside, a solid choice for fast food Lebanese style.
