The accommodation isn't fantastic, more functional and given there is little choice in the immediate area it's reflected in the price. I ate breakfast and plat du jour there only once...both were very good for the money...
We did a day tour of the perched villages near Draguignan in the south of France, and arrived in Montferrat about lunch time. Le Relais came up on Google maps, so we decided to give it a try. We had a lovely three-course menu of the day. It was a simple starter of sausage, pickles, bread and butter, and then a delicious turkey casserole (daube). There were choices for dessert and between us we had chocolate mousse, panna cotta and basque cake. Really enjoyed the meal and the service, and only 15 euros per person, which was less than many of the other village menus we saw. There were seven other diners when we were there—all locals.
When a chef from a competing village (not a competing restaurant with respect to experience) recommends a place, you gotta think it's gonna be good.
