Based on the reviews that we had read, we had high expectations and we were not disappointed. The restaurant is housed in a building on the edge of what used to be called Saint Jovite but is now part of Mont Tremblant. It is a pretty restaurant with indoor and patio seating. We were warmly greeted and chose to sit indoors because it was a cool night. We were seated at an elegantly set table and patiently guided through the various menu options. One of us had the three course table d’hote menu with a mesclun salad and goat cheese starter, halibut filet and a sampler of three desserts. The other ordered the foie gras appetizer and the bouillabaisse. Everything was beautifully presented at a relaxed pace and everything was delicious. The service was excellent throughout. Given the excellence of the food, setting and service, we felt that our dinner was well worth the cost.
It is understandable that this is the number one restaurant in Mont Tremblant. For a special occasion pre-order the Duckling a la Rouennaise (2 day advance required) during preparation the chef discusses his techniques. A welcome indulgence. White table cloths with attentive staff. To complement the duck we shared a goat cheese in puff pastry over a garden salad with a very light dressing. They have their own parking.
My husband and I and another couple visited Mont Tremblant for the first time this past week. We live in the New York metro area and were excited to try the top rated restaurant when we visited Mont Tremblant. Nothing we ate was spectacular and most of the food was just average. The bread was decent but served with hard balls of butter that were difficult to spread. The sundried tomato butter was a nice touch, but would have been better served in a ramekin and not "balled" and ice cold, making it impossible to spread. I ordered the Mesculin salad which was just ok. The goat cheese in phillo wrappers served on it were difficult to cut and thus did not add to the salad experience itself. My fellow diners ordered the parsnip soup which was good but not great. Three of us ordered the vegetarian stew - it was very bland and served in a very small ramekin - not a good value for the $25 we paid for the dish. There was a stuffed cabbage on the plate that was also pretty tasteless. Our other friend ordered a fish dish (the arctic char I think) which he said was very good. It came with some sort of jellied spinach flan that he didn't like and I ate because I was so hungry but it was weird in texture and had a strange flavor. The only bright spot of the meal for me was the Tanzania black chocolate and cardamom ganache, with crunchy praline. At least we ended on a good note. The atmosphere is a bit stuffy and while the service was good, we felt a little ignored vs. the French speaking patrons. I was disappointed overall in our experience here and did not feel it was good value for the high price of the check!
Although we were about 20 minutes late for our reservation we were greeted at the entrance by a charming hostess and taken to a table right away. The problem was our table was on the outside porch (no problem) but next to the door to the kitchen which was open. We heard dishes, pots and pans clattering the whole evening. We were also seated almost underneath a speaker through which we heard pop music. Of course, it's my fault because I didn't complain. The wait staff were all very nice and accommodating. However, service was very slow. The meal was good. Soup and salad for starters, halibut and scallops for main and creme brûlée and dark chocolate cake for dessert, all good, but pricey. Overall, the highlight was the staff. The slowness and the price for what we experienced were negative.
This was one of the best meals that we have enjoyed in the region. We were a party of three, including our 6yr old daughter. Treated to truly French cooking: we started with duck foie gras and apple tatin tart with black sausage which were both really delicious. For our main, our daughter had duck confit (as suggested by our server) while we had the red deer steak and duck breast. Each dish was wonderfully prepared and everyone enjoyed their meals and that of the other. We ended the meal with creme brulee and Opera. A beautiful ending to our meal. Staff were attentive and the Chef came out and greeted us, a highlight to our daughter's experience. We will definitely visit again when in the area.
