I found this place in the summer of '08 when I first discovered the Friday night Farmer market on Myrtle Street. When I walk around, I could smell all the grill that was cooked, so I followed my nose. If you order a pulled pork sandwich at the stand, its about $1 more than if you just go over the street to their store. Her pulled pig is by far the best I ever had. The meat is perfectly marinated and very delicate. The sauce is brownish. I also heard from mouth propaganda that their raspberry lemon pancakes were legendary, so I had to try it one morning. It has a light sweet tar flavor. It was divine with a glass of ice cold milk. Your land breakfast is also very popular, which is very sweet of raspberry lemon pancakes, 2 eggs, sausages and potatoes. This is too much for me, so I usually only the raspberry lemon pancakes. Again, I am a creature of habit, so I usually always have the same thing, so I rarely venture from the two items described above. I have many friends here in the last two years and they all loved it. They are very easy to arrange even group meals. I have their covered back terrace with heated lamps for a large breakfast that I once hosted. The ambience of the place is very up to earth with red tablecloths, vintage license plates on any available space on the walls and sawdust peanut shells on the ground. Yah, kind of like Lucilles, but much more to Earth. Anyone who works there is super nice, including the waiting staff. I never had a problem there, whether in or to eat. You also have a few benches outside, which is great if you have just seen a movie a few shops down at the Krikorian Filmtheater. This picturesque Myrtle street offers a very nice walk to any day or night time. Big suburb. Parking is usually never a problem since there are many adjacent street parking spaces and private business areas. Simply read the characters and observe the parking times limits to avoid tickets.
Arrived 5:35pm on Sunday 19 DEC and it was moderately busy inside. staff were all masked and other than taking orders and delivering meals maintained their distance from others. I was seated promptly (table for 1) and the lady immediately took my drink order before she left the table. Moments later another gentleman asked if he could get me a drink and I indicated the lady took my request for water just moments ago but could I also have a Passion Tea. Sure enough it was on the table in minutes. My server came a minute or so after that and took my order, paying close attention to my requests and repeated my order back to me to be certain…spot on my friend…(1 2 rack baby backs w sauce on the side and a baked potato w butter bacon bits if they had them, and some coleslaw, please and thank you). Dinner was on the table, exactly as ordered in 11 mins from ordering! Dinner was delicious! Ribs done just right; easy enough to get them off the bone and full of good charred flavour. A touch of sauce on the side and they were perfect. The “bacon bits” that went on my baked potato was nothing shy of 2 thick cut strips of bacon…no complaints here! Coleslaw was tangy and creamy…if I have to eat coleslaw this is the way I like it! Service was incredibly attentive throughout my stay with water tea refills being offered frequently and regular trips past the table had various servers and other staff asking if everything was good. A+ for attentiveness to the customer. Meal was moderately priced (quite reasonable for what I received) and I’m glad I ventured away from a typical chain restaurant for dinner. My fist time in Monrovia and my first dinner out in this area…definitely did not disappoint. Well done Jake’s Roadhouse … I’ll definitely be returning. Thank you and merry Christmas Happy Holidays!
This place is simply SPECTACULAR! It has an amazing old school diner feel, the food was incredible, the service was beyond great, and the prices we so affordable I was literally baffled! Can't wait to come back and try all of the other menu items!
One of the best breakfast spots worth the 40 minute drive for me. Their lemon pancakes with raspberry butter and raspberry syrup are . We had their rib eye steak, home fries, and sunny side up eggs, scrabled eggs, bacon, and hashbrowns, Their customer service is great.
I had a perfect be medium rare boneless rib steak served with a baked potato and a fresh ear of corn and the price tag was $37 which I considered very reasonable because the steak was so large I barely finished half and the same thing with the potato so literally what I brought home was it enough for a complete dinner just adding vegetables with it. The people I was with ordered half a barbecue chicken in the sauce was wonderful and the chicken was absolute be tender and quite large. I give this restaurant to thumbs up because the service was excellent the food was excellent and the portions sizable and as to the Ambiance who cares especially when you're dealing with wonderful food reasonably priced and excellent service.
