You'll find a bar that is dedicated to George Costanza fit with paintings, drawings, pictures, food and everything you can imagine dedicated to him. Whoever started this bar is a genius, very eclectic indeed. Some nice beers, cocktails and a fun atmosphere. Similar to other bars in Fitzroy, cozy with a certain energy that you would be hard pressed to find in many other cities.
We went on a Sunday night so a little quiet. Live guitarist was excellent though. I imagine it would be a good vibe Friday, Saturday nights. They also have Seinfeld Trivia through the week. Cocktails are reasonably priced but not much food on offer. Toasties ( all pretty much varieties of ham and cheese ) and pretzels and chocolate ( not so good with beer ). They need a bit more variety in food to make it a destination you'd spend all night at but overall worth a visit.I had a **** George Cocktail which was yummy.
This bar is themed on George Costanza from Seinfeld. It is a smaller bar and has cozy booths along the wall. The drink offerings are nothing really special with pretty much just above standard fare on offer, that is nice wine and better domestic beers on tap. Nothing to turn your nose up at though. Some international stuff in the bottle was also available. Didn't do food so can't comment.Overall a nice place to sit and have a few, read the walls and relax. Looks like it has DJ's at some times but not while we were there.
When we first arrived I panicked for a second as the front entrance was so dark I thought it was closed. This place was great for nostalgic, novelty value - loved all the artwork and quotes covering the walls. My cocktail was great and my toastie was simple but delicious.
Love it. I want to buy this bar and live in it, so I can keep reliving the awesomeness which is George's Bar. Thank you for an amazing night filled with laughter, tasty food, great tunes, and long chats. From the hilariously oversized and beautiful George mural on the outside wall to the great little Seinfeld figurines dotted around inside, George's Bar takes you to another place; Awesomenessvillia. The theme is cool, the surfaces are clean, the atmosphere is chilled, and the bar staff are the most friendly and passionate group of people I've met in a long time. The toasties are delightful (I had 3, and would've had more if my pesky stomach would simply expand), the craft beers are very moderately priced, and the simplicity of the menu is refreshing and clever. The Monday trivia night was fantastically hosted and a genuine laugh for all. The toilets are clean (a rarity in most pubs), and the decor makes you want to just walk around and look at everything while you sip your drink. The people who run this bar are a credit to the industry (the owner, the bar staff and anyone else involved) and my only negative is that there are not more bars like it...everywhere. I travelled 2 hours to get to George's Bar and would've travelled another 6. If you've watched at least one episode of Seinfeld, go to this bar. If you haven't, go to this bar. If you don't even like bars or have had a bad experience at one, go to this bar. I will be back.
