Gone full cashless. And no physical menu. Food was okay but would not come back until cash is accepted again
Having been raised in Southern California I have eaten great Mexican food all my life. So maybe I should have known better or maybe I should get points for giving Fonda a try... The tortilla crisps were like the Pringles of tortilla chips. All the same size, consistency and flavor. More like a Wheat Thins. Served room temperature. Friends, guacamole is more than just mashed avocado which this was. I ordered a chicken salad out of caution which was just a a lump of lettuce corn beans and chicken. No discernable dressing on it. But I did get a bonus of a chunk of salmon in the middle of it which I did not touch. The best part of the meal was the Negra Modelo. I guess this place would be ok for drinks after work, but if you are looking for true food this ain't it
Had dinner with my friend at Fonda on Saturday night. There were no hard copy menus so everything was on the phone including ordering. My phone’s reception was poor, so it took ages try to get my order to process. In the end I asked a staff member if they could take my order and they looked at me blankly. After some umm ing and aah ing they sent me to someone else, who took me to the front of the store, leaving me there and walking off without saying anything. Eventually someone came over and took my order at the register. I went back to the table to wait for my meal. Because of the delay between our orders, my friend had nearly finished her five dishes before my food came out. Not sure why they couldn’t have put her order on hold so we could eat together or at least asked! In a normal restaurant, if there’s a delay or issue with a person’s meal, then they wait until that’s sorted before bringing out everyone’s meals together. The zucchini fries were yum. Cocktail tasting board was nice but overpriced for how little you get. The corn was amazing! We ordered a serve of sour cream but it came out in a tiny, half filled bowl. Only enough for one person not to share between two people. I asked for extra sour cream. Was told I need to do it through the website. I said my internet isn’t working. She said I had to go all the way back to the front of the store to order and pay. I asked if I could just order the extra sour cream from her and pay when we leave (like a normal restaurant) and she said no and looked at me like it was the most bizarre thing she’d ever been asked. I gave up. The beef and prawn tacos came out cold. Told a staff member and she just shrugged. There were heaps of wait staff around but they “floated”around the restaurant, just drifting slowly and aimlessly. Makes sense, though, considering they don’t actually wait tables. Won’t be back. Don’t recommend. I can get zucchini fries and Mexican street corn that are just as yummy at places where Staff actually serve you. One star for service (or lack thereof) Two stars for food.
Came to Fonda mid week for the first time . It was really all a bit disappointing. Restaurant is very brightly lit, no music, lacking atmosphere and the waiters were walking about in bucket hats which looked strange. Menu was limited and food average. You have to order everything on line. There is a tab you can run but be aware that it still bills you after every transaction rather than in one total at the end.
