Carmela's Mexican - McKinleyville

This was my first time trying the sopas, and they were good, although I can’t compare them to others. The chips were fresh, homemade, and absolutely delicious. My only complaint about the place is the wait time; it took nearly 30 minutes to get our food, and it wasn’t even busy.

I just got ripped off for $3 for a side of sour cream that never existed. I paid for it, but when I opened my meal, there was hardly any sour cream on top of the guacamole, even though I specifically requested just the taquitos and sour cream. The sour cream is supposed to come with the dish anyway...

This has been our favorite restaurant for over 15 years, but I've been disappointed three times now. Tonight, the service was terrible. We were seated and then left without water, chips, or any information about the specials. When the food arrived, it was bland and served in very small portions. The enchiladas barely had any filling. The margaritas were mostly just blended ice, lacking both alcohol and flavor. I had to ask for more chips and had to flag down the waiter for a to-go box and the check. I'm really disappointed. Next time, we'll be trying a different restaurant.

I got the Al Pastor tacos and Chorizo tacos. They were both delicious but the Al Pastor was amazing!

I went from not having been to the McKinleyville Carmela's for years to going three times this last week thanks to the fantastic server Sehonna! Go for taco Tuesday if you want a great deal on the shredded beef and a great margarita!
