The Shalimar - Matlock

Lovely food and staff will be revisit when able. Great variety and very flavoursome.

Went here for my dad's 80th birthday. They had decorated our table with banners confetti and balloons. They made us feel very welcome. . Service was friendly and efficient and the food was plentiful and lovely. They even gave my dad a birthday cake, with a massive sparkler in it , and a card from all the staff. On holiday in the dales but decided we would look for an indian restaurant so checked on line We saw the reviews for shalimar and remember driving past on the way to Matlock so decided to give it a go We parked in their car park and entered into a little bit of asia It had a lovely feel with furniture and decorations to match We were met by warm and friendly staff who helped explain different dishes and offered to cook some of our favourites from our local indian restaurants We declined and chòose from the balanced and varied menu and found the starters and main meals advised to be really well cooked and presented we really enjoyed both but over indulged and did not try the sweet menu We feel spoilt for choice for restaurants living close to London but this restaurant was up there with the best and capped a lovely week in the peak district

We hadn't been to the Shalimar for a while but have friends that go regularly and so when all the family were discussing where to go out we decided on the Shalimar. We had an excellent meal with plenty of choice for everyone. It wasn't full but you got the impression that there was plenty of space even if it had been, they have enough room that they don't have to squash the tables too close together. We will certainly be going back soon.

Visted with my wife and was met by friendly welcoming staff with nothing being to much trouble. Food was outstanding, when they realised we liked our food hot and spicy they gave us an extra hot chilli dip(wonderful) to try with our fish starter and our mushroom starter. Had two wonderful mains (garlic chilli chicken and Lamb rezzila) served with great nan bread's and pelai rice. Great touch on leaving helped us back on with our coats and because it was raining walked us to our cab under there umbrella. Well done to EVERYONE at Shalimar will call back next time we visit the area
