I would have never found this place if I did not drive on Jefferson for a delivery. Place: Medium-sized (could seat around 120 people if they squeezed), outdoor seating on Jefferson, interior is orange, not much but works for the place. Staff: Has a great sense of humor. Our waiter and the guy who brought water/host were some great, sarcastic, people (that 's a good thing). Very attentive. Food: Different enough where uncultured people don 't say this is straight up Mexican boy , but not different enough where people say am I eating ? We got the Chicharron De Pollo (very good breading; fried chicken bone-in) and Beef Empanadas as appetizers which hit the spot. I had the Chancho Asado (succulent grilled pork shoulder marinated in annatto dry rub; kind of like paprika or tumeric) which was fantastic. I don 't like fat on my meat at all, which this had, but it really didn 't bother me for this dish. Overall: You got one (as far as I know) Nicaraguan restaurant in STL, it 's hard to bring a comparison as of now. This place is three things I like: Great-different food, little-known location, pleasurable-humorous staff. Go there and you won 't regret it.
We thoroughly enjoyed this restaurant, the food was delicious and done well. We had the Carne Asada and Camarones al Moho de Ajo. The shrimp was done perfectly and the sides were the perfect accompaniments. We will certainly be going back, we enjoyed ourselves at Fritanga and highly recommend it!
We didn’t know anything about the place, so we were blown away by the combination of flavors. For delicious home cooking, Fritanga is a great choice.
