Home-cooked food with amazing views in a very relaxed, homey atmosphere. Liz has a real passion for excellent food and creative cooking and she will serve you dishes that you will not find in anywhere else in Mamallapuram. Her menu changes from day to day, often based on what the local fishermen have just caught. Although there are meat and seafood dishes on offer, she also has great vegetarian options and is always happy to make you something even outside the menu. Make sure you try her fresh vegetable juice and amazing desserts. She often uses fresh herbs that she grows. Feel free to stay and chill on the sofas and cushions after your lunch, listen to the waves and gaze the breathtaking views. I have eaten there several times during my long stays in Mamallapuram and have never been disappointed.
Liz was a corporate worker from Chennia, who after started surfing fell in love with Mahabalipuram and chose the life we would all get killed for. She runs a home stay and a restaurent. Her kitchen is on the roof top and bang on the beach. Needless to describe anymore about the location and ambiance, still to mention, its a place full of life. She is a great cook and prepares every meal herself. She made some delicious Indian food for us on our first visit, though we walked in very late, late as 11.00PM. She is a wonderful host and is very particular about her cooking. We went to her for our lunch buffet the next day also and its an awesome South Indian platter with a delicious dessert. We had long conversations and she suggested and narrated us about the wonders of Mahabs.
Food cooked with passion. Tasty. Hostess and chef Liz Thottan takes good care of people's taste... I think she quite understands your preference by looking at your face. Small place... Can seat about 20-25 people on a crowded day. Apparently a favourite among the surfers.
The meals we enjoyed at Eli's Kitchen far surpassed any meal we had during our visit tio India. The freshness of ingredients, the care taken in preparing our meals, as well as the wonderful atmosphere, resulted in a memorable experience for us.
The place was a bit difficult to locate, but I'm so glad we did. The food was delicious May it was the pawns, the red sauce pasta or the Chana with parota. Excellent aromas. The desserts were amazing to the Nutella... cakes, the filter coffee cheesecake and even the Tender Coconut Payasam. Too bad we missed the Banoffe Pie. Last but not least, Liz was a fantastic host and made us feel at home. Thank you for a wonderful experience.
