The Black Horse Inn - Maidstone

Similar to numerous other pubs in Kent, this restaurant disappoints with its lack of seasonal vegetables. If you opt for a steak, you can expect to receive the usual accompaniments of a large mushroom, one slice of tomato, and a small portion of chips. It is definitely high time for the establishment to invest in a skilled chef who can truly cook, rather than relying on someone with limited culinary expertise.

This 18th century pub is stunning, with numerous original features and a cozy interior. The staff are friendly and offer exceptional service. The food is delicious, with large portion sizes. If you're looking for a pub where you'd be happy to be snowed in, this is it. Definitely worth a visit.

My group visited this restaurant for a birthday celebration, but we were left extremely disappointed with both the service and the food. The service was incredibly slow, and we ended up staying at the restaurant from 3:30 until after 7. We were informed after placing our orders that there was not enough beef for everyone, forcing us to change our selections. The excuse given was that another large party was causing the slow service, but we had made our reservation weeks in advance. The dessert options were limited and there was a lengthy wait. The roast dinners were not enjoyable, with bland potatoes and chewy meat. Unfortunately, we do not plan on returning anytime soon.

We were given a limited time in the restaurant and so after good service and average food we found an unoccupied table in the bar to enjoy some after sunday roast drinks. We were at this table 5 minutes when a waitress appeared with a small blackboard placed on our table saying it was reserved from 6pm. It was 4.30pm at this point so no worries. As we thought we had till 6pm, we ordered another round of drinks and at 4.45pm another waitress appeared with a second blackboard for our table saying it was reserved from 5pm !!! We gulped down our drinks to then discover this table WAS NOT RESERVED FOR ANOTHER CUSTOMER BUT FOR THE OWNER !! So just to clarify the PAYING CUSTOMER has to move to make room for the OWNER !! We were offered alternative seats so again to clarify the CUSTOMER has to move tables to accommodate the OWNER'S preference !! We LEFT !! Visit the Black Horse to play musical chairs according to the OWNERS rules!!

Visiting few times a year the food is always great and prepared nicely, rooms are clean and staff kind and helpful. I normally visit for work and always stay here for how good it is despite having hotels available closer to work. Would recommend
