Auberge De L'etang - Magnac-Bourg

We were en route from Dordogne to the Loire Valley and needed to break for lunch. We chose Magnac Bourg because it was one of the Village étapes and we didn't want to just stop at a motorway service station. It was a boiling hot day, 35C and we weren't in the mood to walk around looking for a restaurant. L'Auberge was the first one we came across. We were greated warmly on arrival and were given a nice table on the balcony overlooking the pool. Oh, how I wished I could jump in that day! It wasn't a cheap restaurant but there were lots of yummy things on the menu. We didn't want to eat a huge meal and then be sitting driving for another few hours, so we just opted for a main course a pork steak and a tagine. The tagine was tasty and full of flavour. But the star was my pork steak which sat above a tian of thinly sliced vegetables on top of a rösti. It looked dramatic and tasted wonderful. I didn't care it was 35C, I polished it off with gusto. Too full for pudding, unfortunately, so just a nice cup of coffee. The service was pretty good, despite the fact that it was busy and was always with a smile. We do this journey most years and I am sure we will be back.

Tried the Gourmet menu. Grenouilles entree OK, Poisson bland and swimming if butter if you like it like that, Steak great with nice side dishes, Cheese very good and Desserts (all 3 of ours) were excellent. Service was good but without too many smiles and we came away very satisfied. Nice views from the terrace at rear and a bit of entertainment in the square after France winning the World Cup.

Nous nous sommes arrêtés au hasard dans cette auberge sur la route de nos vacances et nous avons été très agréablement surpris. Déjeuner en terrasse avec vue sur la piscine et sur l'étang. Menu à 17 euros avec entrée, plat et dessert : parmentier de porcelet froid sauce moutarde à l'ancienne, filet de dorade et ses legumes, profiteroles aux fruits rouges. Une cuisine simple mais de bonne qualité. Un service très rapide pour pouvoir reprendre la route. Une bonne pause dans un cadre agréable et un très bon rapport qualité-prix.

Des pommes de terres verdâtres et une cuisson de viande non respectée , un label logis de France très décevant.

À éviter pour une pause étape. Le goût de la sauce rappelle les boites de conserves. De sérieux doutes quand au fait maison des plats. Ne nous arrêterons plus malgré un cadre idyllique
