Vintage had outside seating in the front (on E. Wash) which was shady, and on a side courtyard, which was half sun, half shade. We asked to sit in the courtyard. Hostess sat us at a table in the shade. We asked to sit in the sun. Hostess refused as the tables in the sun sat 6 and the tables in the shade sat 4 and we were a party of 2. I wanted to leave immediately, but as we were already on destination #2 and a bit hungry, wife convinced me to stay. We ordered some apps, cheese curds and Rip Rip chicken, and tried to order some brunch cocktails...an old fashioned and something called a Stop, Hammer Thyme. Unfortunately, they were out of some ingredient for the latter cocktail, so I stuck with water. By the time apps and drinks arrived (10-15 minutes after being sat), 2 different parties of two had been sat at the sunny six tops. Now I'm unhappy. Chicken tortilla soup and cheese curds were mid. Rip Rip chicken was a soggy, disgusting mess of a dish. We barely touched it. Server didn't ask any questions about why we didn't eat it or want to take it to go. I couldn't wait to leave. 2 star food and a 1 star experience. I rounded up as the space, both inside and out, is really nice. While the food in this local chain has never been excellent, I've never had food or service quite this bad at any of their other locations.
Always great food and service. I have ate here for brunch, lunch and dinner and never been disappointed. Creative drinks and food but nothing too weird for those who don 't like to be adventurous.
My wife found this place while we were in Madison for a wedding and boy are we glad that we went! In addition to the good beer selection, the food was fantastic and the service was good, albeit slow due to how busy it was. My wife ordered the Pulled Pork Burrito (see picture) and I ordered the Rip Rip Cheesy Mac (see pictures). Both were delicious juicy, rich and flavorful. I really liked the Rip Rip Chicken on top of the macaroni and cheese, so if I went back I would probably try that by itself. This place is definitely worth a stop when you are downtown in Madison. We had been to their location in Sauk but not this one even though it is only a few miles from our home. We made a reservation through Open Table though it wasn't too busy on that Friday night. We couldn't find street parking so we parked in the Livingston garage a block or two away only 80 cents/hour. The space is big and airy. The menu is typical sandwiches, burgers and fish fry. They had an Old Fashion special so three of use took advantage of that the drink was very good. We all had a fish fry though not the Friday all you can eat special since that would have been wasted on us. A couple had the cod and a couple of us had the bluegill fish fry. The fries were quite tasty. Everyone gave their dinner a big thumbs up. Also the food came out in record time. I guess this is one kitchen in town that must have enough help. We used a City Tin coupon for $10 off the meal. The food was reasonably priced to start with. We will return.
Don't let the cold exterior of this establishment turn you away. I know it looks like an unpleasant strip mall diner, but it really is a pleaant interior. An impressive wine list. I can't speak to the beer but everyone there seemed to be enjoying it.
