I don't know what what some of these people are complaining about it was 90 degrees out when we were there, but our room was completely comfortable. Use the fan, or maybe go outside and get some fresh air?The room was clean, welcoming inviting. We were happy to be able to stay here. We just drove up the coast in a whim, saw the resort was hopeful they had a vacancy. The people at the front desk were super helpful and inviting. Thank you for such a great experience!
I checked in recently. The resort looks tired. The restraint whike pretty and upscale doesn’t work well as the only option for dining on site given the menu and huge prices. The rooms are tired despite being “refreshed” dingy and dark and horrible mattress in my room. The great staff moved me to a room with a great mattress however chunks of tile in the bathroom were missing and the recently stained dark) woodwork and faux fur bedding on a 99 degree day no AC fyi) was depressing at best. I had to check out a day early due to being I’ll and they will not credit back the one day I had to forego. Bad customer service policy in a place that is struggling at best.
We paid $380 a night plus an additional $70 resort fee to be placed on the third floor of the hotel that was under construction. This wouldn 't really be an issue except the stairway to the third floor read Authorized Personnel Only . I really think for this we deserved some sort of discount. The carpets looked unvacuumed and there were dead bugs all over our room. Something I don 't mind in a motel, but for the price seemed unprofessional. The Strand is excellent and I highly recommend it. The staff and chef are simply top notch, the food was heavenly. Definitely the highlight of the trip.Next day we came back to our room and the trash hadn 't been taken and the dirty towels left on the floor hadn 't been replaced, nor had the complimentary Nespresso cups. Again, not a huge issue but it seemed odd. We went to wash our hands only to learn there was no water. Apparently the whole water supply had gone out. This is not the fault of the staff and I 'm not upset about it, but what is upsetting is that apparently people claim they checked in while the hotel was waterless and were not informed. It seems like the owners did not want people knowing. I think the hotel 100% should have offered free cancellations during this time for people, especially the elderly or those with disabilities who may not be able to be comfortable without water for long.Earlier reviews indicate that their pool had been previously temporarily shut down over not being updated in time, I wonder if a similar issue happened with the water pump. I worry the new owners are not taking care of this historic hotel. A resort fee seems extremally silly as most of the activities are not operational or only happen on certain days. Disclaimer: None of what transpired was the fault of the wonderful staff who seemed to be very overworked yet dedicated to their jobs. They did everything possible to make sure guests were taken care of during a stressful evening. I really sympathize with how stressful it must 've been. I put all the blame on the owners.
See my descriptions of our room below. Rooms did not have enough wall outlets to plug in the second window fan or lighting (either beside your bed or at the table between 2 chairs none to relax and read.Pebbled beach to walk on and chairs to sit on and view Lake Superior. Weather permitting, a bonfire was lit and you could make S 'mores.Upon checking out, I did speak with the Manager and the person in charge over housekeeping. I was told the rooms were the owners design/taste. Housekeeping would improve. I was refunded our cost for breakfast because of my complaintsRooms: Very disappointed in our room. I 'd reserved a room 6 months in advance, explaining that at this booking we were celebrating duel birthdays wanted a Lake view. Instead our room was in a portion of the hotel where the view was the kitchen in the floor below. For $399.00/night we did not expect a very dark bedroom, where the bathroom bedroom has not been cleaned properly. Found a half eaten pretzel on the window sill, filthy ceiling vent in the bathroom and other signs of poor housekeeping. Our stay was 2 nights and I had to mention at the front desk to provide us with 2 new clean washcloths. He stated our room would be cleaned after 2pm.Plus, the gift shop, with glass shelves, was so dirty that I wrote, Please dust me on the shelves and on day 3, they hadn 't been touched! This gift shop was where you 'd stand before entering the dining room and made us question how the kitchen would be maintained.Food drinks: We were delighted to discover that the one server to wait tables at breakfast, was courteous, friendly and helpful in helping us choose our entrees. The food was well prepared, pleasing to the eye and tasty.
Location was breathtaking, and the service was wonderful. But the rooms weren't great. We were paying five-star prices but getting a two star quality room.Things were broken and cracked. Cobwebs all over the place. Wanted to enjoy the fresh air but bugs kept coming in through the screens. What we paid for the room was not worth it. It should have been half of that.Rooms: Our cabin was not clean. And appliances were broken.
