I booked a month in advance for this place. Then 30 minutes before my reservation, I get a text saying that they are closed temporarily 30 minutes before my reservation. I waited an entire month for this place and scheduled my weekend plans for this speakeasy and they were closed. Had they told me earlier they were closed or gave me even a 24 hour notice in advance, that would've been helpful because my friends wouldn't have to travel so far just for this place to find out it is closed. If they knew they were closed, it needs to be stated somewhere on this Yelp page and they need to close the reservation option instead of allowing people to reserve. This is unacceptable.
I was super excited to check this place out, but the day before my reservation I get a text saying they are closed for the weekend. I tried to find out why, I called, text, emailed and got no contact back. I even Googled and checked Yelp and they said it was still open. Kinda stupid how they charge people $20 if they cancel last minute or dont show up, but they can just close for a weekend and not explain why. Yall get a 1 star cause I cant give you 0
I would call this review, Missing the Marc(us Last night my partner and I went to the Exhibition Room as it's a place she had been wanting to take me for me awhile given our love for craft cocktails, plus I'm a big fan of speakeasies in general. You'll have to make an RSVP and then get the password. Upon arrival we told the host we were there for the Exhibition Room and he then led us to a phone booth by the pool table where we were instructed to pick up the payphone headset and push the button.Alex the host greeted us and then sat us down inside. The interior of the Exhibition Room is dark and does give off a vibe of a speakeasy.Alex then said that Marcus is the bartender and that he is one of the top 10 bartenders in LA and that Alex had taught him.My go to cocktail is the Vieux Carre so when I asked the bartender Marcus for this cocktail, his response was can you remind me again what's in a Vieux Carre That was the turning point of the night. If you're a top 10 bartender in LA or for that matter any where you should know how to make this cocktail. I get this cocktail at non speakeasies and with ease.We also nursed our first round of drinks for an hour bc the service was slow. Usually bartenders are fast and chatty. I would also say that the Exhibition Room could use more support staff to take drink orders from others in the bar.We found out about another bar outside, a tiki themed bar, which my partner and I checked out but was notified that we could only order two specific drinks only as this tiki themed bar was shutting down.I like the ambiance but give me a better bartender and better service, and Alex did comp us a drink but frankly I couldn't see myself going back. I've had much better service and experience at other speakeasies and cocktail bars.
This place is amazing! The atmosphere was unlike anything I have ever experienced before. I felt like I was back in the 1920s! You need a reservation and password in order to make it in. When you arrive they tell you to go to a phone booth. When you get in the phone booth you follow the instructions to call in and they ask for the code word. Once you give the password the secret door opens and you are back in time! Our bartenders Marcus and Alex were the best and every drink was spot on! Excellent service! I will be back for sure. I highly recommend this place. It's an experience you can not miss!
