I had the house salad with Chimichurri Dressing, which was really delicious, and then we shared the Brussels Taters appetizer and the Uncle Collin Pizza. The appetizer was good, but I expected actual bags instead of sliced potatoes. It was still tasteful. Pizza was also an interesting choice. Your dough is kind of chewing, which I personally prefer, but feels fresh and well prepared.
We arrived mid day last Sunday. Greeted promptly and sat wherever only two other tables with patrons. The waiter was very sweet, helpful, and prompt. We ordered two pies, pretty standard. Parking is tough though The pizza is amazing. The crust has this soft texture then hits with a crunch at the end, and those oven fired browned up crust bits are amazing the toppings are very fresh and the cheese they definitely aren?t shy with it! The service: it took a half hour to get the first pie, we waited on the other, after 5 minutes we just ate the first pie. They reassured us the other was coming. They kept us refilled on drinks and seasonings for the first pie and kept us in the loop. I believe it was an issue with the oven. We waited a bit more and the second one finally came. We were there longer than we planned and were upset, however, instead of asking the pie to just be removed from bill and leave, they made it right, the second was voluntarily removed from bill very professionally, and arrived hot and delish. We packed it to go and still paid the bill with 100% tip. Customer service is everything! Other places could learn a lot from these individuals!
First off the food here is amazing!!! The music is loud for those with hearing issues, but not uncomfortable. Normally I take a star off for that, however the food here is so good I couldn't do that. The roasted vegetable plate is killer!!! Line me up 4 or 5 of those and I would be a happy camper!!! If your like me and like a good meat pizza get the Vinnie!!! It is loaded and amazing!!! Now the side salad was devine! I don't normally talk about side salads but this was one of the best I have had!!! Looking for something different in pizza? Then this the place to hit! A definite repeat!!!!
Over the past weekend, Fat Man Reviews ventured out to PieTana in Lexington, KY. PieTana is a pizza shop that cooks with a wood-fired oven, This is the home of the Lexington style crust, they use West 6th Amber Ale in their pizza crusts. We started with the Pizza Bones with Cheese. The bones are their bread sticks with cheese, they are served with fresh marinara and house made garlic cream sauce. The dough was cooked to perfection and the cheese was melted to a golden brown. There was a good chew and a buttery flavor to this dish. The marinara was slightly chunky and had a great tomato flavor. The cream sauce had a hint of sweetness, but it was more cream than garlic. A Fat Man pro-tip, mix the sauces. We also tried their Signature Wings. They are spritzed with fresh lemon juice, coated with Parmesan cheese and bourbon smoked paprika then topped with chimichurri and served with bleu cheese. The wings were juicy and cooked perfectly, the lemon juice and the chimi was wonderful. The bleu cheese was chunky and great. The Parmesan cheese was a bit burnt and that flavor came through some. But make no mistake, these are excellent wings. We also tried the Vinnie pizza. This comes with tomato sauce, mozzarella, Blue Door smoked brisket, bacon pepperoni, red onion and Marksbury Farm Italian sausage. The crust is amazing and unique, the amber ale adds a new level to the flavor. The pizza was pretty good all around, however the sausage and brisket were cooked before and when reheating it makes them a little tough and extra greasy, in my opinion. The pepperoni was great, and the bacon was chopped thick. PieTana is a very small joint, but they do have a patio that is open in the warmer months. They serve draft and bottled beer, and they have a full bar. The menu offers salads, appetizers, signature pies that are all named after the Nealey family and a build your own option. The Fat Man says that PieTana is Fat Man Approved.
Finally was able to try out PieTana. I have again had it on my list to try for a few months and today was the day. I brought my two daughters along for the visit. As we entered I already had a feeling we were going to enjoy it. I really like the building and the decor. Although I wasn't there for a drink they have a great fully stocked bar and serve many of the Local Brews! We all ordered the Lunch Personal Pizzas and got two of their signature versions and one make your own. The Vinnie and the Jolene along with a Banana pepper, pepperoni pizza. I also started us off with an appetizer of the Pizza Bones w/cheese. Plus the Lunch specials all came with a monster salad. (Pictured) Excellent pizzas, fantastic crust, solid sizes, and wonderful ingredients! The Brisket is from Blue Door Barbecue, the Sausage is from Marksbury Farms as a few examples. We finished it off with the Cannolis and have absolutely no regrets. Highly recommend if you are in the mood for a unique pizza experience.
