While my choice of Rogan Josh, rice and naan bread was hardly a broad sample I can say that I enjoyed it immensely. The decor is spartan, crisp, and very Singaporean in that way. Being small,it is run by one very nice man (with an immense beard! I'm going to work my way through the menu. Being this young, it can only survive if we give it a good go and being in stiff competition its survival depends on us and it is tucked away beside a bigger Indian restaurant. I felt very comfortable in this unpretentious place but I suspect the more ambitious dishes could be a challenge-but that is always the way of smaller curry places everywhere.
We bought a Scoupon voucher for a three course meal for two at this restaurant (which was really a cafe). To start we had to share an entree for one. The coupon came with a soft drink included. We don't drink soft drink so I asked if we could have a Lassi instead and pay the difference, to which she agreed. The entree was very nice. It was followed by a serving of butter chicken and another of beef varuval. The curried were served, but we had no cutlery and had to ask for it. The butter chicken was tasty, but a lot hotter than I've ever had before. Both of us were blowing our noses a few minutes after starting the curry. The next course was the beef curry. I had one mouthful and found it very dry and lots of cartilage on the meat. Then I found a long string of something in my mouth. It looked like a piece of a bag or something. Most unsavoury. I couldn't eat any more. We sent the whole beef curry dish back to the kitchen with the piece of string, but didn't even get an apology. Then when we went to pass over the voucher and the $2 extra for the lassi, she wanted us to pay the full cost. Won't ever go back to this place again. The food certainly didn't make up for the rest.
Great flavours. All dishes we ordered were delicious and very reasonably priced. We had chicken tikka, veg biriany, masala dosa dhal. Popadums and raita. $47 Yummy.
Very good food. Great friendly service. Good value for money. Also do take away! Highly recommended. We will be back!!!!
There are not many places in Perth that do dosa and uttapams Daawat is one that serves credible South Indian dishes. that are reasonably priced. The paneer uttapama is delicious with just the right amount of green chilli. The sambals are very authentic. We will be certainly be back to try the rest of the menu.
