Merchants Pub and Plate - Lawrence

The lentil mushroom shepherd cake is different from all I had before. The crispy sweet potatoes on top are a nice touch.

I came during her happy hour, I think it was before 4:00 so some of the dishes and drinks were reduced. I wanted to try to make things their main menu and just wait up to 4PM, but if I took a look at the menu, there was not much that interested me. There is a quinoa burger but my guess is it's tiny and to be vegan, you have to take cheese and aioli from him and it cost like $13 or something... So I skipped this idea and at the end order brussel sprouts and hummus from the appetizer Happy Hour menu and they were amazing. Portion hummus was small, but the brussel sprouts part was humble and tasty, maybe best brussel sprouts I ever had. All their items on the menu are very well marked, best I have actually seen. You have V (vegetarian does not contain meat), V (can be modified to be vegetarian), VV (vegan does not contain animal products), VV (can be modified to be vegan) Overall I would say that this is more of a place for vegetarian not vegan, but could be a good option if you are looking for a nice place to eat or have drinks and an appetizer. There were several vegan options and the menu was clearly marked whether it could be made automatically vegan or vegan. I went with the sweet potato Quinoa Burger and Pommes and was not disappointed. I wanted to make a picture, but I couldn't stop eating as soon as I took my first bite. The hostess and our waitress were extremely friendly and helpful. You also have a great beer tap list! I will return to try their other vegan options.

Happy Cow didn't give me 5 or I would have. Merchants Pub and Plate went beyond and beyond to create a fantastic vegan duck for us. The buffalo flower Taco plate with its mixed vegetables of the day was incredible!! They had delicious cauliflowers with a buffalo sauce (not overwhelming), a purple hover, a pico relish, cut avocado and they also delivered a few vegan dressings! The cook did a great job as the ladies took the order. We cannot wait to go back and sit on the terrace as it gets cooler!

Merchants definitely has the best brussels sprouts on the planet!! I have tried to find other places that do them as well, but there are none. Be sure to get the ones on the small plate menu that come with cashews and apricots. They are vegan by default and absolutely amazing! Overall I would say merchants is better than average, and they are very accommodating to dietary restrictions. They have several vegan options, and so it’s a great place to go if you’re with a mixed group. Wish I could give 3.5 stars, that would be more accurate.
