We arrived for a late lunch thru a dirt road with not enough signs to find the place. We passed Flora and Acre Baja because this was supposed to be a great place. Yes, is lovely and the staff is friendly. the food is good, but not as outstanding to deserve the drive. The prices are a little on the high side and tips should only be paid in cash.
Day one in the Baja was at a cooking class with the charming and knowledgeable Chef Pietro and the staff at this farm away from the bustle of tourist zone. What a delight to see what grows here (we now have purple basil envy) and how the idea behind farm to table works in this part of the world. So much fun to do the preparation and to TASTE the results. It was a reminder to use seasonal, local ingredients and that dishes do not need to be fussy to be filled with flavour. My husband and I enjoyed ourselves immensely and highly recommend this as an activity while in the Cabo area. And, don't forget to try their purple basil marguerite. OMG! I am going to be dreaming of those for awhile.
This review is only related to the cooking class. First, the setting is quite lovely and the food is without a doubt quite delicious. The cooking class was not exactly what I had hoped for. At a cost of 95.00 per person (plus a 16% tax and 15% gratuity) I would have expected more interaction from the chef. Largely, the chef was non communicative with simple one word answers and very little in the way of explanations for techniques, etc. Additionally, we were offered drinks during our visit but we were not informed that this was not included nor was a menu provided to assess the cost. Four lemonades for my two kids ended up being quite pricey! Finally, the recipes provided at the end of the meal were incomplete and were not actually the recipes we cooked. Overall, I think this would be a lovely place for a delicious meal I would however skip the overpriced cooking classes.
We took friends there not knowing what to expect--best meal we have ever had in Baja!! The food was fresh, excellently prepared and presented.
