I would like to thank the Catania team for donating gift cards for some important employees from a local San Diego Elementar! They were given the superiors for their hard work to start everything ready for the new school year, and they were BEYOND gracious and touched by contemplation and generosity! I also wanted to extend my personal gratitude, Catania and his team support the community so many ways and it shows up through everything they do to support every aspect of the community, far beyond just superior food, drinks and ambience! DANK YOU!!!!????????
The 3 levels to get to Catania were decent and it wasn't too confusing. It looked very busy, but we had a reservation. The hostess has made a quick check for our table and we sat within 2 minutes. We wanted to sit near the railing and delivered! The view was amazing, there a little after sunset. It was a jubilee dinner, so the waiter brought us additional glasses on champagne. We started ordering some drinks: a Nora (Bürbon, mirtamaro, spiced blueberry vanilla syrup, Angostura bitters -served on large rocks) and a Classic Negroni. Then we ordered the Smoked Duck Liver Crostini appetizer (Dates, Currants, Almonds, Pickled Shallots Parsley). For the main dish we ordered Wild Mushroom Pizza (Burrata, Fontina, Garlic Confit, Chili Flakes, Sherry Vinegar, Thymian) and the Duck Sugo Orecchiette (braised duck, tomato, porcini mushrooms, Juniper, Parmesan). The garlic conflict was amazing with the Wild Mushroom Pizza. The Duck Sugo was also great. I think both were too salty and the pizza was missing something for them really good, but I'm not a cook, so I'm not too sure what it was missing. Overall the service was solid, the view was amazing, the food was a 4/5. Overall great place and I would come back to try some different things.
TREATMENT Rating: Food and service were very good! Our server was Alberto, and it's just the best! He gave great food and wine recommendations, and we enjoyed our meal thanks to him. The manager, Tara, who worked at the host desk, was excellent. We had the Focaccia, Tuna Crudo, crispy octopus, shrimp risotto and all branzino. We had the Nussella Semifreddo for Dessert. Our favorite dish was the crispy octopus. It was tender and delicious, with a touch of spices! If you get this court and it's not tender, send it back and make sure you get this court to its best? it will be worth it. Our second favorite dish was the shrimp risotto. Note that the shrimps come without the ****, so it is not as dirty as you might think! NOTE: Original review was 2 stars, and outlines our terrible experience with bad food and negligible service. We ordered the crispy octopus, spaghetti with mussels and Bucatini alla? amatriciana and a few drinks. We were contacted by the restaurant to return and give them another try. We did, and the above review reflects our second experience with the restaurant and disregards the first.
Very nice restaurant with a great view of La Jolla sunset. Open air with inside and outside dining. Large drink menu. Coastal Italian cuisine. Bartenders are the best. Servers are very friendly and attentive. Casual dress. I will be back.
