The food was greasy, salty, and delicious. Definitely closer to comfort food than ' 'clean ' ' eating. They clearly value flavour and authenticity over being sellable to a larger audience and I appreciate that, it 's mean they sell things harder to find in other Indo restaurants around Melbourne. It 's real Padang food for Indonesian tastebuds. I 'm not sure what other reviews are saying about them skimping on the curries because my plate was overflowing and I actually ran out of rice. This may have been because I came quite early (like 11:30) so I probably recommend that if you want a big serving. I had the lamb brain, eggplant, and jackfruit/cabbage curries. Lamb brain and eggplant highly recommended. The jackfruit/cabbage is mostly cabbage (but still quite tasty).
This place serves pretty good indonesian food. Went with my indonesian friends and they said taste is quite authentic to what they have back home. Interior on the other hand can be quite average and dodgy but you would only go there for the food especially the chilli sauce.
2nd to go Indonesian restaurant when i was homesick. 2 meats 1 veggie $12 with a decent portion. Had the fried lungs, spicy fried chicken and fried eggplant
Salero Kito Padang has been dishing out cheap and cheerful meals without fail all these years. Popular with the lunch time crowd for the quick and easy bain marie offerings, you’ll see a mix of students and office workers here. A concise a la carte menu is also available, and if ordering from this menu, you get a complimentary Teh Kotak with your meal.<br/ <br/ The Padang cuisine is famous for its use of coconut milk, chillies and spices. Bold and piquant, you’ll enjoy the amazing depth of flavours here. The beef rendang and chicken curry are my go-to order from the bain marie. The beef rendang here is the dry version, and it may not suit those who prefer to drown their beef in sauce. Beautifully spiced and rich in flavours, this aromatic dish goes down well with rice. The same can be said for the curry chicken, and the curry sauce that comes with this is to die for.<br/ <br/ Some days the flavours, and the serving size, can be better than on other days, but nevertheless you’ll always be assured of a tasty and affordable meal here.
Love the food. I tried spicy chisken, and jackfruit cury best sambal ijo
