Przekaż informację zwrotnąSunday, my boyfriend and I decided to go for brunch before he headed back to Toronto for work. We were originally going to check out Windmills, as they are pretty well known for their brunch food, but the line was MASSIVE and they did not take reservation during brunch, since it was so popular (Maybe another time I guess!). So, we looked nearby for another restaurant and Megalos was up ahead - we decided to give it a try. Going in to the restaurant, it was also pretty filled; however, since we were only two people, we got a spot quite quickly near the windows! The seating was very comfy - large cushiony armchairs. To drink, my boyfriend had coffee and I ordered a café mocha. I was a bit disappointed with the mocha because it was so foamy and all I tasted for the first few sips was foam. The coffee itself was mediocre - nothing too special. For the food, my boyfriend ordered the Mezzo Wrap and I ordered the French Toast. I had to say that I was again disappointed with my French Toast. It was drenched in maple syrup, making the bottom piece of bread beginning to soggy up. I wish that I asked for the syrup on the side... The egg dip on the French toast only was on one side, so it looked like the French toast had like a very thin layer of scrambled egg on top - not too sure how to describe it, but I didn't really like it. The French toast itself was mediocre - the sour dough bread did not go too well with the taste (normally it does) and there was way too much cinnamon. I like cinnamon, but when there is too much it is so overwhelming and makes me feel a bit sick. The apple compote tasted kinda funny , so I left it on the side of the plate. I didn't finish my French toast - there were 3 pieces and I ate almost 1 piece. Definitely not getting the French toast again ! As for my boyfriend, his Mezzo (or was it Mezza?) Wrap was pretty good, but nothing too special that set the restaurant apart from other ones. The home fries (which were actually like potato bites) were good, but kind of grainy, not as smooth as potatoes normally were. He thought his dish was mediocre as well, but it was definitely better than my French toast. Would I come back ? Probably not. There are a lot of breakfast/brunch items however on the menu, maybe the other ones would prove to be better? Maybe dinner would be better? Not sure, but will think again when coming back.
Booked last minute for 6 on a very busy Saturday night in Kingston. We were in from Toronto for the Queens game. The owner host was very courteous and clearly understands customers are important.I am gluten free and I was overwhelmed by the variety and quality of options available.GF pasta, bun and desserts. Our waitress Kourtney was very polite and very well informed of the options for gluten free and even went to check my order was gluten free. I had the Dosmo pasta and GF pasta and bun and it was outstanding and clearly quality and presentation are a focus.Other items were steak, Shrimp Robaso, Gnocchi, another Dosmo and and a large assortment of desserts. Very nice decor on the main floor and a very busy spot. All pasta looked homemade and was excellent and our bill only came up to $230 for 6 which is very fair for the great quality and passion that is clear that was dinner and desserts for 6.
It's location right beside the Grand Theatre makes Megalos the perfect place for a pre theatre dinner. A parking garage behind the restaurant and theatre means you don't have to face the elements on a rainy or cold day. Both of us thought our meals where tasty. I can highly recommend the gnocchi which has a lovely rose sauce. My reason for the fourth star in my rating.) As ladies, we found the portions adequate but big eaters might find them small.Ambiance was average and service was good.
I can only report on a lunch-time experience but based on that, and the menu, I would have to say there's another pretty good restaurant in Kingston that can rival the long-standing 'go-to' places farther down Princess Street. I was with a group of about 12 and we sat on the new patio which, like nearly all Princess Street eateries, is unfortunately squeezed between the store front and street, on the sidewalk. But it was a nice day and an enjoyable lunch. Naturally with 12 people there were a variety of dishes. I had the chicken wrap with house salad and, yes, you can get it just about anywhere but this particular wrap was put together with somewhat different ingredients and very tasty. Affordable at $12. No one was disappointed with their meal, in fact they were very happy. Prices were good and portions generous. I have to point out that the service was exceptional. Very attentive and spot on. So, based on what I experienced, dinner at Megalo's is certainly "on the table'. Ha!
My oldest daughter is celiac so we always pick restaurants based on what she can safely eat. Megalo's was very careful to ensure that her meal was safe and all of our food was excellent. The mushroom bruschetta on gluten-free bread was garlicky and delicious. The coq au vin was very tasty and the salmon with ratatouille and rice was outstanding. My husband upgraded his fries to poutine with his burger and the curds were nice and melty and the gravy was quite tasty too. My picky eater had plain pasta and a huge side order of fries (not a healthy choice but there you go) and they didn't charge us an arm and leg. Some places have charged me full price for whatever pasta dish they offer even though they are just bringing out pasta and butter). Would definitely return.
