Khao Sok Riverside Cottages

Bad service. Beautiful location. Owners caught in a money fever. Moderate houses. Roof leaked. Accommodation and excursion on the lake is ok, nice but very expensive. Food drinks: Moderate, breakfast not included. Pleasant in itself, but due to location not really a choice to go for a better breakfast location. The stay at the Riverside was definitely the highlight of our trip to Thailand, we booked the package with an overnight stay in the floating bungalows. It was fantastic, in the evening toucans flew past our accommodation. We would have liked to have stayed longer. All the employees were very nice and helpful, the food was delicious and the rooms with the large balconies in the middle of the jungle were fantastic. Definitely a recommendation. The 'guides ' are stoned young men who speak no English. We had a package booked including an overnight lake stay, canoeing and hot springs. The canoeing involved us being ushered into a car with a young man that never spoke to us, driving to the side of a highway and then following him down through the jungle with an inflatable kayak. He was carrying a machete and said nothing to us the whole time, we then paddled up a muddy stream. Eventually two other pairs of travellers joined us, but up until that point it was quite scary. The lake trip involved a long muddy hike to a cave which was quite underwhelming. The floating bungalows were cute and evening meal was good, the breakfast was awful. We were taken on a 'safari ' in the boat and saw nothing, and I don 't think it was bad luck but the nature of a loud engined boat on a lake. Also the 'guides ' were smoking cannabis right next to the open engine. Finally we sat and waited for 30 mins to go to the hot springs, when we then asked if it was happening one of the men lead us to a car and drove us there so I don 't know why we were left waiting and had to ask to go. They were honestly awful and very underwhelming. All in all I think the package is very overpriced for the quality of the activities included. If you really want to go to Khao Sok you 're better booking into one of the hostels as you end up on the exact same lake trip but for a cheaper price. Rooms: 5 Service: 2 Location: 3
