I had to do some research to find out via their Instagram page @tacovegala) because there's no signage on the storefront or even the website. I'm super sad about this restaurant closing, but I guess the lesson is to make sure we support our favorite establishments so they can continue to thrive and serve our communities. Fairfax has definitely lost an icon.
Worst costumer service ever! We came around 8:45pm on a Saturday and this white cashier tried taking are order and was very rude, dismissive, and condescending. Since we were Latinas, he made sure to let us know that the restaurant was vegan and rolled his eyes. We obviously new that and did the drive for this reason. Not coming here ever again.
For long-time vegans and vegetarians, scrumptious vegan Mexican food now exists and among the best places I've been is Taco Vega on Fairfax. It has been more than three decades since I had proper hard shell beef tacos (I don't know if that's a Mexican or Mexican-American dish) and Taco Vega's vegan version brought me back to age 13 or so, growing up in L.A., when food really wasn't all that, but no one had an argument with hard shell beef tacos, which have always been pretty straightforward. Otherwise, Taco Vega's horchata is heavy on the cinnamon and much better than the usual. I will be dreaming about this place for a long while.
These are some of the better Vegan tacos I've had in L.A. I ordered the pastor, camote and baja (staff recommended). The Baja was by far the best and most flavorful. The other two were pretty bland and the salsa's didn't help much. Salsa is so important for a taco place and these were a bit disappointing. I would definitely come back for the Baja and possibly to try other dishes that might pack more of a punch. Service was super friendly and the small restaurant had a laid back vibe. They do wrap each taco in foil and paper individually, which seems nice to keep it warm for a to go meal, but a bit of an environmental waste when you are dining in, which I was. Overall this place has potential, and considering vegan tacos are kind of rare in this town it's a good option!
The only place that looks decent on this side of Fairfax. Taste great. Will be back again if I am in town. #govegan
