This is the epitome of what I want to eat when I leave the house. Something comforting and made with love, and if I ever tried to recreate it would probably not even come close. It seemed family run and everyone was so sweet. It's very small inside however, so be prepared for a waiting list. I always get something thats saucy (which is most of the items) and you can't go wrong with the rosti or spaetzli. Love absolutely everything I've had here.
We've been there thrice in the past two months, each visit was a marvel of quality with excellent service. Jennie and Tammy, along with their staff are most welcoming surpassed only by their dining offerings. The salmon in wine sauce, the rock fish in wild mushroom sauce, and the desserts are all absolutely wonderful. They serve the best Grav Lax this side of Finland!
Small joint. Can get a bit loud. Parking can be tough in the area. Ordering on early 2022 is a little awkward (you order at the front before they seat you). All that said, I loved the place. Folks were friendly and attentive. Food was really good, but don't expect light and delicate chow. Lots of cheese *squeeee*! My wife and I had their croute emmental, onion soup, goulash and paprika schnitzel. I thought most of it was fantastic, but the schnitzel was more just good to pretty good. I'd go back and I'd recommend to friends and family. Also, they make their own dressing, Martin's Swiss Dressing. That stuff rocks. And you can buy a bottle to go!
Outstanding service from server to owner who are both ready to help with your every need. You are given a menu and asked to order at their counter, but after that, they bring you water and drinks and actually check on you see how you like the food, see if they can bring you more bread etc. (nowadays you order at counter and get your own water and only see someone when they deliver your food and gone again) I have always had a great meal here (usually specials but last time PAPRIKA SCHNITZEL my friends favorites are SZEGEDIN GOULASH* and EMINCE ZURICHOISE . I love the spätzle and always order something with it fondue was delicious and the swiss onion soup very cheesy but made with a chicken base (I think) very good. I don't live close but it's worth the trip and a nice change from the typical restaurant foods. Small hidaway off Alberta street in Portland. Visit The Wine Cave close by on Alberta while you're there.
