Having been to Iquitos seven times, I was surprised to just try Ikiitu for the first time last week. Went for lunch and was treated to a great meal. Traditional jungle food with unique preparation with reasonable prices and great service. Can't wait to return on my next journey.
Ikiitu is an amazing restaurant. The flavors were fantastic. The service was very good and the well-decorated place was clean. It’s a nice respite from the streets. Walking distance from the square and other key locations. I had the fish and it was a whole fish. Fortunately, my husband was cool with my deboning it by hand, which actually gave it an authentic feel. He had a traditional compilation and loved every bite of it.
We are big travellers and foodies. All our visits include trying out local cuisine, anything from local markets and street stalls to fine dining all that’s inbetween. For something different to your norm come here with adventurous and open minds and you wont be disappointed! We had an array of different dishes including worms, heart of palm salad, chicharon plantain and tortoise soup. These are focussed on the typical foods if the Ikiitu tribe (where Iquitos gets its name from) but with a modern twist. All served in large portions and excellently presented. It’s perhaps a little more expensive than other restaurants but reasonably priced for what you get. Thank you to the wonderful staff who were welcoming, friendly and knowledgeable and took the time to tell us about where the food comes from and how its prepared. You could see they cared very much about what we thought of the dishes too.
Good traditional amazonian food! I recommend trying the worms as appertizer! Also service was good. A must restaurant in Iquitos
