My mother told me funny stories about this restaurant as we gedimt. She told stories about evening clubs that were like that. They served a relish tablet, something I had never heard or seen before in a restaurant. Pickles, olives, carrots, celery, paprika and even pickled herring. I ordered the roasted avocado as an appetizer. I didn't expect that at all. It was not a heavy meal after fried and served with a sauce. Instead, the delicacy of the avocado was preserved and it was perfectly spiced. (From the website: Deep-fried avocado filled with crab meat and served with an orange emulsion sauce. Fresh rolls came with a small boat of three spices. Butter, spiced olive oil and something that looked out, and tasted like, green olives with Pimento, but finely chopped. All three were delicious on the reels! The salad was not the typical bagged, chopped salad. Instead, it was fresh green with carefully placed, thinly cut carrots. The presentation was so elegant! And the dressing was not overwhelming, although it was not served on the side. The salad was small, but as a course in the whole meal it was perfect. I ordered the risotto with shrimps. Really amazing! Everything was perfect. My mother had the pig medals. They were so tender and the cranberries with him made for a series of sweet and tart with the pig. It was a perfect pairing of flavors. Finally, I was not hungry, but the food was so delicious I really wanted to try a dessert course, something I rarely order in a restaurant. I was torn between the chocolate maus and the lemon dessert. I went with the lemon. I don't remember what it was called. It had lemon curd, a layer like a soft, dense cookie, vanilla ice cream on top, and blueberries with points of raspberry sauce decorate around the edge. Oh, my! definitely worth an order! The Fireside is expensive. There are no family-friendly prices. But the food is fine food that will rival every big city's fine restaurant. ....only without the need to dress up in fine clothes. These are the forests in NW Wisconsin, where people are camping and vacation while wearing shorts and T-shirts, not suits and diamonds. I wouldn't wear my clothes that I wore while I painted the cabin, but I felt completely comfortable in a pair of shorts and a short sleeve on top. Bonus, not laborious to drive to the big city and with traffic and expensive parking. Here, all you do is right up and then inward. We met and talked to the cook on the way out. He grew up eating there and knew the former owner. He was a chef in Chicago (if I really remember what he said). He was happy to chat with us and remembered with my mother for another time that she ate there about 20 years earlier.
Had dinner here for the first time on Saturday night. We were impressed. Friendly, attentive service. Creative specialties. Divided a cup of the cream of Celery Blue cheese soup with my husband. Delicious. I had one of the specials, Beef Brisket served with new potatoes and mushrooms. Could cut the meat with your fork it was so tender and it had wonderful taste. I was impressed by her house salad that came with the ducks. Usually you get iceberg salad, but not here. A beautiful mix of greens with curved carrots and thin cut radishes. I had the Blue Cheese Dressing that was great. I had noticed that some reviews pointed to somewhat higher prices, but our dinners were worth every penny. We'll be back. Kudos to the cook, great work. Just regret, We were too full to have dessert.
AMAZING! I'll come back. From the moment we entered the door, the service was amazing. The owner sat us, the server was very knowledgeable and helpful to help us in the decision was to order (it sounded so good and it was hard to decide). The food was delightful, thoughtful, so good and satisfying. The creativity and love of food that the owner has chef is very obvious from the presentation to the last bite. Thank you for such a great experience.
Excellent Northwoods lodge vibe crossed with gourmet cuisine. Had a traditional Belgian dish that was perfectly executed. A welcome surprise and worth a detour. Appreciate that one can have a beer at a very reasonable price or try a wine pairing suggestion.
