I typically do not eat chicken in restaurants, but Nellie James had organic roasted chicken on the menu that night. What a delicious treat it was. The staff are very friendly and the chef made rounds to everyone's table to see how our meals were. I can't wait to go back.
Returned here tonight with my two sisters to celebrate a birthday. We had a lovely evening, with great food and service. We began with grilled asparagus with blue cheese, walnuts and prosciutto in a lovely brown sauce. We also shared naan bread with brie melted on top. For our mains, my sisters enjoyed their scrumptious chicken dinner with veg and potatoes. The glace/sauce was so delicious. I really enjoyed my trout choice that had a charred skin and piled over fresh boc choy and other yummy veggies. Again, the marinade was so interesting and delicious. Even the two types of breads with our meals had their own distinct flavours. There are specials of the day on a large board and the menu changes with what's fresh, which is written on a small chalk board brought to the table. Vegetarian options looked delicious and I was also drawn to the 'light curried' duck burger and the rabbit dish also sounded great! Several tables dining while we were there and everyone seemed to be enjoying their meals. Cool music. They've also included tall tables near the front of the space that give the illusion of not being below street grade. A great idea! Room is nicely lit and service is always very, very good. Only one female server tonight and she was working the room, ensuring everyone was happy. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! They were also at SoupFest again this year and their concoction was delicious, as always. And of course, the chef/owner is so attentive and genuine. We will definitely be back. Large portions, very good value for both food and wine.
We went for an earlier dinner arrived around 5:30. Our server was energetic, informative, casual and made us feel at home. We ordered the cheese board with 5 or six offerings along with some very light pita slices with two accompanying sauces. One we thought was honey, as it turned out it was a roasted garlic sauce which played on the tongue with great sweetness. Our server delivered a generous sampling of onion fritters with a roasted pepper dipping sauce, delish! My husband ordered the brisket special and I ordered the venison.....Mind blowingly tender cooked to perfection! The chef, Ken, visited our table to ensure we were pleased and also to thank us for coming in. A very nice touch which I'm sure our early arrival afforded him an opportunity to escape the kitchen for a quick moment. My cocktail, a Manhattan, was very good, all be it a bit modest in the pour served with a fabulous candied orange slice....I ate the whole thing. We will most definitely be back.
From the fun chalkboard menu to the open and friendly waiter, we knew immediately that we were going to be charmed by this place. My date had the lamb and said it was tender and delicious. I had the boar (first time)! and the gravy that went with it was divine. Will definitely go again!
I haven't had a meal like this since I was in Las Vegas eating at a Michelin award winning restaurant. Chef Ken will always take you on a journey and tell a story. You can taste his food and immediately picture yourself on the shores of Hawaii, or France or India. You don't just show up and down the food and leave full, your taste buds are taken on an adventure never forgotten. YOU MUST TRY THIS RESTAURANT! Service is great and always accommodating. If you get a chance to meet Chef Ken, make sure you spend a few minutes! Oh and his desserts are to die for and I never eat dessert.
