It was great to find kale and tofu in the sea of fried food and dairy ice cream along the waterfront. If you’re really hungry (like I was) it will work in a pinch, but I would suggest taking the short walk to Copper Branch for better value.
Was at the harbour and hoped to find vegan ice cream. The closest we could find was a smoothie at heartwood by the sea. We had a banana peanut butter smoothie that had no flavour and was full of unblended ice chips. Not worth the $8. FYI, we subsequently found non dairy ice cream and chocolate down the road at Peace by Chocolate. Copper Branch is also just a couple of blocks away and is much better choice than Heartwood.
I tried a $10 vegan chocolate smoothie and it didn't really have any flavor, it basically tasted like a granola smoothie the only good thing is they can add vegan protein to it making it a bit healthy. Their lemonade is $4, maybe next time I'll try that. Updated from previous review on 2021 07 31 Updated from previous review on 2021 08 01
We ended our coast to coast by train trip to Canada in Halifax, and were happy to find this place right on the waterfront. It was during the busker festival, so they also had a coffee trailer just a bit further down. The workers there were super friendly(I think one was the owner), and the coffee was good. So then another night we were walking along the harbour and decided to grab a bit here. I ordered the taco salad and my husband a burrito. The guy asked my husband if he wanted cheese, to which he said yes. The taco salad looked awesome, but it also looked like it had cheese. My husband took a bit of his burrito, and there was no cheese so it ended up in my dish instead. We simply switched even though I wasn't in the mood for a burrito(it wasn't too exciting...it was really just beans in a tortilla wrap with a small side of salsa), and I didn't want to waste food by returning it. I also found it really expensive for take-away food. I ordered an iced coffee drink that was warm, and my husband had a smoothie with oats that was pretty tasty, and it came up to over $40 *gasp*. We could have gone out to a nice restaurant with service for that price.
I tried a couple of wraps from Heartwood, and they were quite flavorless—just plain raw chickpeas and vegetables wrapped up.
