Decent food, but expensive and terrible service. The owner actually evicted our national meeting of certified organic growers from her cafe (halfway through a session on our second day there) in a fit of unexplainable pique. The meeting had been booked, confirmed and reconfirmed, and over a day and half our group had spent in excess of a thousand dollars in meals, but that didn't mean a thing to the owner. Thank goodness the German Arms up the road gave us a room to conclude our conference.Local? Maybe. Organic? Not in our many years of collective experience. Rude? Definitely. Do yourself a favour and avoid.
We were really disappointed at the way our group (a national meeting of organic orchardists, ironically) was treated at this cafe. Our convenor organised well in advance, and confirmed the week before, and was clear that we would be a group of 15 to 20 people, that we'd need power for presentations, and we'd be buying morning tea and lunch (which we did, plus many in the group bought breakfast both days as well). On the first day some staff seemed a bit grumpy, but everything went OK and no issues were raised with us. On the morning of day 2 things became passive/aggressively hostile, to the point where they refused to turn down the noisy music (which made it hard for us to hear our speaker), and our projector was pointedly unplugged while a guest speaker was presenting (though it wasn't being used at the time). We were really unsure why they became hostile towards us - it was claimed we had unplugged freezers, which was not true. Then they said that we should have been charged for use of the space (which was outdoor, on a covered verandah), which had not been mentioned before then! Our group was polite at all times (we suggested some other customers might be more comfortable if they shifted to a table a little further from us, because we were aware our conversation was a bit noisy), and we bought lots of food and drinks - as far as we knew, we were upholding our end of the bargain. The cafe was busy, but there were empty tables the whole time we were there, so we weren't taking up tables that were needed for other customers. When our convenor (who's a local who will NOT be recommending this place to anyone) tried to get to the bottom of it, the owner was rude and unco-operative, saying it was her business and she could run it however she liked, so we left and took our business to the very friendly pub up the road!
Very very disappointing. I took my grand daughter for morning coffee. She has a severe allergy to nuts. There was not ONE cake, biscuit or fruit bread without nuts! No effort onstaff part to find a solution. Won't be visiting again.
The choice of food was amazing and the pancakes I had delicious. Service was good although the restaurant was packed with people.
