We recently sampled the lemon meringue pie, and I have no idea how they managed to create such a tough, chewy meringue. The filling was a bright neon green and had a taste that seemed straight from a can. I'm afraid I'm going to have to toss the leftovers.
On March 14, 2013, I picked up three pies from Riehl's Bakery at the Pennsylvania Dutch Market in Hagerstown to celebrate Pi Day: Blueberry, Peach, and Caramel Apple Walnut. I found the blueberry pie to be the best of the bunch, but the others in my group voted for the apple pie. The filling was thick and sticky without being overly sweet. The pie crust was nicely crumbly on the edges and top, but a bit doughy and thick on the bottom, with a nice texture from the crystal sugar sprinkled on top. Overall, they were pretty good pies, and I would definitely stop by again if I’m in the area.
