The Landlady saw us and said she was more than happy to serve us so we sat outside and had a couple of pints. Thank you so very much for doing that, it was so kind of you.
One of an increasingly rare breed of traditional, homely Welsh pubs. Blend of genuine landlords, great beer, well presented food, welcoming staff and local residents, super alluring location. The sort of place which welcomes back regular customers whether that custom is resumed every week or only once a year (especially for major sports or community events). Long established inns/pubs are not duty bound to impress every traveller with their gastro excellence. So, for all those visitors with bikes, dogs, special diets or other metropolitan elitist expectations who swagger in, glance around, wonder why staff don’t fawn over them, then depart without sampling the hospitality good riddance! Leave this heritage of warm Welsh hospitality for those who genuinely appreciate it and don’t treat such authenticity as some museum artefact. You’re find a welcome in the hillside of Llanbedr. Guard it with reverent care use it or lose it.
Restaurant was empty. Not surprised. Ignored by the staff. They were just chatting to each as there were no customers except us. Didn't bother sitting down. Bad atmosphere, so left.
This traditional Welsh pub is situated at the foot of Sugar Loaf Mountain a perfect spot for hungry walkers. Sunday lunch is all home cooked: we all enjoyed a delicious Sunday roast with plenty of fresh veg followed by apple pie cream. Booking ahead is advisable and the lovely helpful landlady may offer to be flexible with serving times for those who have driven a distance. Highly recommended.
Turned up around 2.45 cold from a 6 hour run in the rain. They weren’t doing food at that time but seeing how tired we were landlady offered to make ham rolls. Yes please!! Then she realised how cold and wet we were so offered us stilton and broccoli soup. Just perfect! Delicious. Lovely Wye Valley ale too.
