We are a gaming family - cards, board games, Scattergories, etc. Not role play or video games. As soon as we stepped in we were greeted by someone who was very pleasant. He sat us, asked if we'd been there then gave us a quick walk-through of how the place works. He then asked if wanted any suggestions on games to play - which we took. There's hundreds (if not more) of games. The bar menu is great. Lots to choose from and the food menu looked good. We got a bread appy that was tasty. Tom (I'm pretty sure he was the owner) ended up chatting with us (we were a little dressed up compared to the role players that were there for a tournament so stood out like a sore thumb). We didn't feel out of place and he made us feel very welcome and thankful that we'd visited. I highly recommend going (although it's not that big so I'd love for it to stay a bit of a secret). We'll definitely be going back. It will be great with a group of friends. Drinks, food and your pick of games. What else could be better!?
Yes, stereotypically, a place with a bunch of board games to play and a menu with fantasy and sci-fi themed food and drinks would seem to be a venue of choice for geeks and/or nerds. Embrace the dork side and spend an enjoyable evening playing some great games with friends and/or family while enjoying items from a creative and well prepared menu. Admittedly, it's not going to win any gourmet awards, but it's some good appetizer style items that are perfect finger foods while playing games. The decor of the place is perfect. Reminiscent of a medieval tavern with Excalibur embedded in a stone in the middle of the common room. There are shelves and recesses along the walls where you will find dozens of games - for all ages and interests. While the place is licensed, I would not have any problems bringing along kids for a family outing. It seemed to get busier as the night progressed, and when we were there the ages looked to range from 16 to 60+. The staff is outstanding - even though it was our first time there, they made us feel like we were regulars. Unfortunately, we don't live in Guelph, and really wish there was a place like this back home.
I had an absolutely amazing time here with friends! Great place to get together for drinks and snacks. Lots of fun games to play in a welcoming atmosphere! A wonderful time! Definitely Adult oriented.
We were here for a "Disney Sing a Long" and will be back soon for the Broadway version. Small intimate setting and very knowledgeable staff. What got us was how the staff seemed genuinely happy to be here. That is important to us and makes a huge difference. The owner (Tommy) is a great guy and made sure our experience went off without a hitch. Did I mention that they are stocked to the gills with every board game you can imagine?? My friends and I played a few games and had a lot of fun. We can't wait to try out "Afterlife Game Lounge" downtown (same owner) as we are sure it is just as well done. Bravo!
Well worth a visit or as a mainstay hangout spot. Incredible and knowledgeable staff and great food and drink! One of the best treasures of Guelph!
