Prices went up, set ice down. Get to sides with entree, but some are an extra charge. Ordered a drink, it was never delivered.
Shockingly disappointing! As a repeated customer of Famous Daves for many years, I am struggling to believe this is the review I have to leave. This USED to be one of the best Barbecue style restaurants in the area, without question. Unfortunately, they've made some incredibly drastic changes since our last visit, and none of them are improvements. It's no longer a restaurant in the traditional sense. It's more like a fast food joint that serves barbecue. You order before finding a seat, for example. The food is dropped off at your table fairly quickly, which seems good, until you realize that it tastes like that's because it was made yesterday. We ordered the brisket, the roasted chicken, the jalapeño cheddar sausage, and the pulled pork. The brisket was cold, a little rubbery, and absolutely NOT the fall-apart juicy brisket we'd been accustomed to in the past. Actually had to use a knife to cut it up. The roasted chicken was about room temp, and so dry even adding barbecue sauce wasn't enough, The pulled pork tasted fine, but was certainly not hot like fresh pulled pork should be. In fact the only thing that was served at what I consider proper temp was the jalapeño cheddar sausage, which while tasty, was not supposed to be the highlight of the meal. Overall, this was an abysmal visit, and certainly our last. If you visited Famous Daves before the redesign, you may not recognize anything but the name now.
Food, service, and atmosphere is great; however, getting an $8.00 service charge on my bill after dining in put a negative on the overall experience. I travel through the Madison area periodically, and have almost always eaten at Famous Dave 's. The last time was admittedly a few months ago (September), but as I 'm headed there again soon, I wondered about leaving this review on the off chance someone might respond. I 'd never been charged for service before, particularly at a place where I order at the counter and refill my own drinks. I 'm sorry, but what amounts to $4/person to have my tray delivered to the two of us is curious at best. Debating whether I 'll be back.EDIT: Received an answer to my comment above that the Service Charge on my bill was my gratuity. I left a cash tip at the table because I didn 't see gratuity or tip on the receipt. I hope the staff got all of it because it amounted to a 40% tip. You need to change what your printout says.
I was looking for a barbecue restaurant in Madison near my hotel downtown. I chose Famous Dave's where closer to the hotel. It was very emptied when I walked in around 8pm, but a few staff were probably busy with takeaway orders, so I waited for a few mins until I was served to order. Since it was my first time dining at the famous Dave's, I asked for a recommendation after telling my favourite Barbie was ribs and beef briskets. Then I ordered 2 meat combos with 2 sides and a bottle of beer, sadly they didn't have any draft beer. I found a table next to the window and it didn't take long to get my food ready. The lady served the food to my table, well, I thought I needed to bring my food from the counter by myself. ?The rib was good, it was tender and moist and sauce was evenly covered on each rib. I think it's 85/100. But the beef brisket was too dry and I expected at least a bit of marbling and fat. The portion was good though. It is worth revisiting for the rib but definitely not for beef brisket.
