Paragon Cafe - Goulburn

Traveling from Canberra to Sydney looking for an early dinner on a Sunday evening we stopped at the Paragon Cafe. The food was terrible. I chose the Veal Schnitzel, it arrived on a plate full of grease served with vegetables that looked like they had been cooked on Friday. Why do locals support it? We should have gone to Macca's or KFC for a better feed. Just terrible. Don't go. Let it pass away peacefully and soon!!

We stopped in to the Paragon on our Annual pilgrimage to the Snow Fields - I already knew what I was going to order - Cleopatra - but was undecided whether it would be chicken or veal.... such big decisions need some time to ponder!!! We were greeted at the door as courteously and efficiently as always and were directed straight to a table where our drinks order was taken promptly. I picked up the menu to find that .... NO CLEOPATRA!!!!!!!!!!! I was stunned!! And sad!! And disappointed!! I have had this dish every year, twice a year for the last 7 years and my only decision was chicken or veal? And garlic or herb bread? But now, now I had to read the menu!! So, I finally settled on Veal Aphrodite. Which was tasty and the veal was cooked to perfection and the asparagus was crunchy and the avocado was rich and creamy and the sauce was beautiful. But, with each mouthful, I was lamenting the loss of my dear friend, Cleopatra. Hubby had the Veal Madagascar which definitely had a kick in its peppercorn chilli sauce but which he said was cooked perfectly and tasted amazing. The food is always amazing, the serving sizes are brilliant and you can taste the superior quality of the produce in every mouthful. We will be back on the return journey. Maybe lamb cutlets next? We're in lamb country, so it's gonna be fresh! Whatever you have, know that it's going to be GREAT and there's going to be plenty of it!!RIP CLEO XXX

OK, it was obvious that some staff were looking to palm-off customers and that those that took your order were faking pleasantries, but hey...The food was alright; there was broad range of options - so you can't fault that. Not bad, but Goulburn does offer other options.

We had a wonderful lunch with friends. It's always a favourite! Have never been disappointed. Loving the new decor also. Classy and welcoming. It's definitely got our tick of approval.

We had a late lunch here over Easter break, on the way to Canberra. Thankfully they were open.
