Never in all of my travels have I had natural oysters served on a hot plate. Obviously defrosted in the sink water logged and awful st $40 per dozen seriously this is appalling from any chef.
Service was not good on arrival, eventually were seated with menus, long wait for service. Ordered dips to share and Flathead and chips to share. Shall I bring them separately waitress enquired, yes please was our reply. Drinks eventually arrived after a long long wait so did our lunch. Both courses brought at the same time. Waitress was uninterested when we commented on this. The dip platter was a “ smear” of hummus sprinkled with Dukah with a pile of pita bread. Needless to say very little pita bread was used as there was so very little dip. Flathead was more than ordinary, over fried and dry. Chips tasted like cheap oven chips. Long wait for plates cleared and waitress really not interested in our negative comments. The couple on the next table waited over 45 minutes to have dirty plates cleared. Very few patrons in the restaurant, we could understand why with the poor food and equally matching poor service. Wonderful setting and view although sadly we will not return.
We first casually popped in to try these dishes after a hot afternoon together at the beach. We decided to sit outside the bar to watch the sunset together. My cocktail Michael chose was amazingly ‘exactly that.’ Very pleased with the flavours of both dishes also. Perfectly cooked and generous serves. We told my parents and they took our family back there the next week. We were that happy with our dishes that we had them again! Still consistent perhaps calamari a tad oily if at all. My cocktail wasn’t exactly ‘that’ this time but all happily forgiven because the bartender was learning and they were busy. The decor and atmosphere in the Rocks dining area is plain and clinical, however, and does let it down. If I didn’t know the food was good honestly I wouldn’t want to go there. The view to the beach raises it a bit. On the ball staff both times. Would be a good idea if you dine there you don’t pay for parking like The Playford (Radisson) does. Don’t take these dishes off the menu! We will be back!
My wife and I had a lovely meal by the beach at The Rocks restaurant in Glenelg last weekend. One great feature of this restaurant is that it is located next to a Thai restaurant, giving diners the option of choosing between Australian or Thai cuisine. The prices were reasonable, and the service was excellent with friendly staff. We both really enjoyed our dinner, with my wife opting for a delicious Thai chicken dish and me trying the Szechuan Squid. The only downside was that my salad appeared to be pre-prepared. It was a beautiful experience watching the sunlight change slowly over the beach.
