Also had the pork ribs and brisket which were good along with the potato salad, broccoli salad, andjalapeño cornbread casserole. We didn 't like the potato casserole or the Mac Cheese. That being said we have continued to order brisket ribs along with several of our favorite sides. This last order we asked for the usually brisket and pork ribs, potato salad, broccoli salad and cornbread casserole along with a large banana pudding. Sides and brisket were good. The ribs had that old freezer burn taste, you could tell they had been frozen and reheated. The banana pudding also tasted like it was going bad; slightly grainy sour. I called store to let staff Kali know that the pudding was bad and maybe check other containers. She informed me (in irrated voice) staff package it as ordered; told her then she needed to check whichever tray it was filled from as it was not good. I think the bananas were probably bad. Any way I think we 'll probably give them a pass for awhile.
Paid a ridiculously high price for a to-go box full of brisket fat. Total came out to $30 for one plate with a coke. It was disgusting and inedible. I threw it away. I had been looking forward to coming here for weeks. Sad. Ruined my night. Won?t be back, ever.
This is the only Pok E Jo's that doesn't have a walk through line. You order at a counter and they bring the food to you. We used to frequent the Round Rock for over 15 years. Some good notes about this location: The staff is super friendly and helpful The interior is beautifully done Some not so good notes: Portion sizes were about half of what they used to be. I understand meat prices have increased dramatically but either increase your prices or notify your customers that you're slashing portions we left hungry The food was a little cold when served They put sauce on the meat after I specifically asked for the spicy sauce. Another con is I had to ask for the spicy sauce because it wasn't available for self serve, regular was. Overall we wont be back to this location. Not sure if we'll go back to any location if these are the standards they are running with now.
I had almost forgotten that there is a Pok-e-Jo's in Georgetown. We made our first trip there on a Wednesday evening for a 2 meat plate. Hardly anyone else was dining in save for a few other couples. The brisket and pork ribs were tender, moist, smoky and delicious. The sides of pinto beans, coleslaw and Texas toast were equally tasty and made for the perfect accompanyment to a traditional barbeque dinner. I didn't forget the raw onions and pickles either. The condiment bar is always well stocked with everything you need to complete your perfect BBQ meal. If I'm not cooking it myself I might just be getting it from here from now on. And this place even serves up alcohol, beer, wine and spirits. Even when it's near closing time the brisket and chicken were still very moist and tender, unlike some other BBQ joints where the meats get questionable late in the day.
I got the three meat plate with coleslaw and the cornbread casserole. Brisket, jalapeno sausage, and ribs. Let's start with my favorite. The sausage was great. Exactly what you'd expect for a good smoked sausage. The ribs were ok, they came out and were not as hot as I would have liked. The flavor was decent but all in all the meat was on the dry side. Not completely dry but dry nonetheless. The brisket... When it first came out I had hopes it was going to be good. Great looking bark, decent smoke ring and the piece on top seemed like it was juicy. However, once I dig in it was VERY dry and not all that warm. Almost felt like I was eating lunch hour leftovers. The coleslaw was great IMO. Nice and peppery with a god amount of dressing on it. The casserole however, again. Very dry and not a ton of flavor. Nothing a little salt and pepper couldn't fix though. Outside of that it was ok as well. I gave the 3 starts because it was all around an under whelming experience. Not very much staff presence outside of the young woman at the front and the guy that brought out my plate. No one walking around to ask about our food or anything else. If you're looking for BBQ I would definitely recommend this over Dickies any day.
