Schelm von Bergen - Gelnhausen

The outdoor terrace was a great place to take on the square of Gelnhausen, have a good meal and enjoy a few darks. I had the Stroganoff and was very happy. Others in my group really liked the carving. It was a short walk through the stone streets of Hotel Berghmul.

Excellent carving! Nice ambience. There was only one man who took orders and a cooking, but the service was good and the food.

I and my boyfried spent a nice afternoon here and we found this great restaurant. The prices are great and food even better! I would never expect to eat something as good as that for so much. I would recommend it to anyone who is... in this area!

The restaurant is situated on the central square with good view. Ouside patio for smokers. Very nice owner, quick personnel. German and Russian kitchen. Try schnitzel with mushrooms and borsh best soup I tried ever

I met Carl the original owner when I was stationed in Gelnhausen back in 1986 with the US Army, unfortunately he was not around for my visit. I used to sit and listen to the stories by the older men in the bar. This hotel...bar/restaurant has been around for the longest time and is a meeting place for those who lived in the day . Situated in the heart of the Gelnhausen Old City, a great launching place to discover the Barbarossa City. One of Europe oldest streets is around the corner as well as the church that towers over the city, built in the 13 century, truly amazing. Take some time and check out the cemeteries, the towers, walled parts of the city still standing and the nooks and crannies of the old city...look at the doors on the houses above the city center and notice how they are only about 5 feet high, gives an idea of how old they are...pure history. If Carl is still around, he can tell you of the hey day and the US Army days, if not some of the guests will have something to say. A great little gem!
