Instead, I'd suggest heading north to Punjabi Dhaba 99, as they make the best vegetarian parathas around. They offer the option of cooking them in a tandoor or on a tawa.
Finally, a true Punjabi dhaba! I discovered this gem located outside a gas station in Fresno. I’m giving it a full 5 stars based solely on the amazing flavors of the food. The experience is authentically Indian. We tried the samosa chaat (called samosa channa here), large parathas that come with yogurt, pickles, and radishes, as well as baingan bharta and shahi paneer. Everything was absolutely delicious. The restaurant is quite simple, featuring just three tables inside and a few outside, with no décor or ambiance to speak of, but the incredible food more than makes up for it.
The service was a bit slow, but the food was quite good, especially if you're in the mood for Indian cuisine. The parathas were huge and delicious. I really wanted to try their bhaturas, but they were unavailable, so we opted for chhole puri instead. The salted lassi and mango lassi were just okay. Just to note, it’s more of a small eatery than a full-fledged restaurant; it felt like a cozy spot for truck drivers. Overall, the food was enjoyable, and we’ll definitely stop by again sometime.
I give this restaurant a 5/5 for its food. That's all that truly matters, and you won't be disappointed because everything is incredibly authentic and delicious. The atmosphere is welcoming and friendly, with the food served by a lovely family that owns the place. We tried the Aloo paratha, which was huge, as well as chana samosa (chat), chole bhature, and palak paneer. The Malai kulfi was delightful too, and the freshly made mango lassi was fantastic. For vegetarians, there are plenty of options available.
Fresh food, generous portions, and fantastic taste! Definitely worth the price—I would recommend it 100%! We ordered 2 Aloo Parathas, 2 Paneer Parathas, 4 Tandoori Rotis, 1 Goat Curry, 1 Samosa, and 1 Salt Lassi, and the total came to $70. The parathas are incredibly large; one can easily serve three people. The goat curry was bursting with flavor and the meat was incredibly tender.
