The chef is brave in his flavour pairings, and more importantly, good at it.This couple-run pre-retirement project is generally open by appointment, so call ahead.Several local craft beer choices - I assume they vary with the vicissitudes of the seasons, as these things tend to.Started with a black bean soup. A word of warning, and this should always be mentioned on the menu, because some of us have very strong opinions about cilantro: It was cilantro-dominated. Nonetheless, otherwise very nicely spiced and hearty. One dinner companion had a braised asparagus starter. It was not over-cooked, thankfully. It came with a lovely blueberry infusion. This was a puzzling, but tasty combination. Other dinner companion had a tomato and basil brochetta type item. I think this one would be better in the summer. There's not much you can do about winter tomatoes. My main was a delightfully quirky dish called Mombasa Morning. It involved perfectly deep-fried haddock (you know it's perfect when the batter is light and crispy, and the haddock melts in your mouth), bananas, spices, and rum. Why Mombasa? Why Morning? No idea, and in an unusual slip, I failed to ask.Companion had steak and morel plate that put a big smile on his face, and on mine. The mushrooms had an elaborate origin story, which the chef shared with us. It may have involved Alaska or possibly Peru. It was delectable.Other companion had a duck dish served on a green onion waffle. The duck was lovely. The waffle was fluffy, but I didn't actually get any green onion flavour in the bite I stole. There was no story to go with this dish, but The Waffle and Duck would make a terrific Singapore pub name, so there's that. The menu is seasonal, so I'm looking forward to trying the spring/ summer/ fall options.
It is unusual to find fabulous food in a comfortable, friendly casual atmosphere, but this gem of a restaurant pulls it off. The Chef's passion and creativity shines through in all the selections available on the menu. The small kitchen is open and both the Chef and the Server are incredibly attentive and friendly. About the food... yum yum. The menu is small and changes frequently. There is also a tasting menu available with advanced notice (definitely trying this next time). The ceviche made us feel like we were back in Mexico and the soup of the day, carrot and ginger, was deelish. My husband and I were both super pleased with our mains. Last few nights for the bison loin, as the menu changes tomorrow. The coffee crusted peppercorn steak was amazing! My husband's lamb was a "knock it out of the park" experience. For dessert we shared a poached pear...yumm. Overall we had a beautiful evening with amazing food. We can't wait to return. If dining here, be sure make a reservation.
My husband and I rarely go out for dinner but, while we were in Fredericton for meetings I had to go here. We both love steak so I had the beef tenderloin while my husband had the bison. They were both so moist and tender, not to mention very flavourful. The chef loves to chat and was very friendly,as was the lovely and very funny waitress. I will make Ten Resto my place to eat when I'm in town.Do not forget to make a reservation! Ten Resto has one chef that makes everything from scratch, including the bread, dinner and desserts. The helpings are diet friendly and there are vegan friendly options.
Most unique restaurant in Fredericton- easily. Food is eclectic, not something you're going to find anywhere else in Fredericton or anywhere really. Chef Keith doesn't hold back and his wife Shelley is just as full of knowledge. It's a must stop for anyone serious about good food
Ate here while I was in town on business, two nights in a row. I had the veal, and the duck meals. The veal was great. After eating hundreds of the same sorts of meals in different restaurants, I really look for creativity in what a restaurant serves, and this place did not disappoint. The duck meal absolutely blew me away with the perfectly smoked duck breast which is heated sous vide, then quickly pan seared. The duck paired perfectly with the chipotle cream. The ostrich fan was a great contrast to the duck breast, and went very well with the meal. This had to be one of my favourite meals I've eaten in a long time (along with the chicken from Eliot and Vine in Halifax, but that's for another review). The owner/chef is a really great guy who makes 100% sure you're satisfied with your meal, and seems to make a bit of time to stop by each table, which is a great personal touch. Since I was dining alone, I luckily was fit in last minute both nights, but Ten Resto was otherwise fully booked. The key lime cheesecake was good, and the chocolate pot de creme was really great. The bread served at the start of my meal was some of the best bread I've ever been served prior to a meal. It was awesome. The side sorbet that comes with your meal is a really cool touch here, and is great for calming down your taste buds while you're enjoying all the rich flavours the food here has to offer. I got coffee one night which arrived in my own personal french press. The coffee was tasty. My only regret is that I didn't get to try the duck fat fries. I saw him preparing an order of them while I was leaving, and they look absolutely amazing. The table next to me had eaten them, and had commented on how great they were also. I'm hoping they're still on the menu next time I'm in Fredericton. The price I paid for both meals was very reasonable, and would have been a lot higher in other cities. Great job Ten Resto!!!
